One of those is Amy Broadhurst. A former world champion with :IRL (at non Olympic weight). She was beaten by Rosie Eccles of GB in the European Games last year. She wasn't selected for Ireland in the first world qualifier where Grainne Walsh was narrowly defeated.  When she was told she wasn't to be selected for the second world qualifier, she sought a switch of allegiance.

She's dropped to the 60kg division (where Kellie Harrington qualified by winning the European games with Ireland last year) and will represent :GBR this time. her father is from England.  Her rivals for the GB spot are not happy with "the foreigner" coming in

Broadhurst lost today. Her GB rivals have been celebrating this

Amy has had two chances to qualify for the Olympics. One for Ireland, one for GB. She’ll still blame others for not qualifying

Some "subtotal" for :UKR performance

5 athletes proceed to the final 2 days. 1 will have 2 chances to get license.

We are doing much better. "Return of the King" Sosnovsky (the coach of that famous 2011-2012 team) was a good decision but too late to get more.

Even with all the problems we could have 7 atheltes in 2 final days:

+ Zamotayev (he was very good yesterday against Quiroga but today his right eye was closed since the first round after a heads-hit - he managed to get 2:2 at the scorecards but lost on a margin)

+ Zakhareev (robbery which... cannot be appealed. The story continues - it turned out that the IOC as the organizer did not bother itself to establish appeal procedure. Anyway the tournament continued and the quotas here will be distributed, so the only way - to prove that the rights of athletes were violated because of the absence of the proper appeal procedure. We will see)

Abduraimov - in the SF - according to Sosnovsky - he is the next big star, and I trust him. He impressed here and could be a medal contender in Paris... if he gets license.

Lovchynsky - still in the competition but with low chances. The same for Molochko - I am afraid.

Kob - you may not be aware of the fact, that the coaches decided to send another athlete. Kob wrote about this intention in social networks claiming that she won direct bout with that alternate. After that she was returned to the squad. And did very well in the first bout against very strong opponent. Still on the road.

Kovalchuk - won against Ferchichi but her real power is still unknown. I am not sure if she will be able to win the next bout.

Something sad about Argentina! :ARG

With the defeats of Quiroga and López, it will be the first time since Antwerp-1920 that the country will not take anyone in boxing!

Remembering that boxing is the sport that has given them the most medals, with seven golds and 24 in total.

Ok, Argentine success dates back to the 30s/40s, and the last medal in the sport came from Atlanta-96. But it's sad nonetheless! They fell from five classified in Tokyo, some young, to none now! At YOG 2018, which they hosted, they won three medals! Sad for our neighbors!

:BUL with one quota from today from Radoslav Rosenov for a total of 5 for the Paris Olympics so far. We have two more chances with Zlatislava Chukanova and Petar Belberov. Good luck to them in tomorrow's fights.

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)
