Weightlifting at the Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024

Recommended Posts

Ah, unfair to the athletes!! And if they care so much about the same country/people winning, then they should reduce the number of redundant events in so many sports.

@Somebodyyouknow there was an excessive amount of doping cases in this sport, so the IOC decided to punish the IWF.

Unrelated to that, though events are decreased because of doping, weightlifting always had restrictions on how many lifters a nation could enter to avoid total domination of Chinese

This was true until 2012, but isn't true anymore.

However, in real world, there are no country who have more than 7 players, and china (16/20) is the only country who sent 12 players among 2 olympics.

Very restrictive for asia... but not in athletics or swimming where western dominates..

I agree, qualification to an event shouldn't depend on whether your nation is also qualified in a different event. Weightlifting is the worst offender, but you also see it in canoe sprint for the kayak events. Technically this can also happen in swimming too, but I don't think any nation has suffered as a result of the rules in the past few Olympics.

As strong as China is in weightlifting they wouldn't win 10 golds, they would win even less if North Korea competes.
