:ITA Simone Anzani, another Italian stopped by the NOC for heart problems.

Big blow for the men's volleyball team.

At least good that his heart problems were spotted in time...

Italy has history of volleyball deaths. :(

I still remember Vigor Bovolenta. Such a great player. :(

I am glad that doctors did good work with Anzani, health is more important than Games.

not only volleyball

however, Anzani was already stopped last year (he basically lost the entire 2022/2023 season, as he already underwent a cardiac ablation surgery a year ago)

then, at the beginning of this season he was allowed to start again by the same doctors that now stopped him again

here in Italy the rules about professional sport activity are very, very strict when it comes down to heart condition (we did even stop a double Olympic champion going for an historical repeat like Domenico Fioravanti just a few months before Athens 2004)

:CAN Jordan Schnitzer (volleyball)

Injury hasn’t been specified, but while watching one of Canada’s VNL matches the commentator mentioned it. Huge hit to our team :(

I don't know where to ask this, but is there a list for all the Olympic Champions that won't be returning to defend their titles?

For various reasons of course. Could be retirement, injury.

For Serbia, most of our medalists from Tokyo won't be coming back.

Including Gold medalists:

Milica Mandić Taekwondo (Retired)

Jovana Preković Karate (Obvious Reasons ;))

Most of the Men's Waterpolo Team (Retired after games)

Our two gold medalists from Tokyo will be back (Ntouskos in rowing and Tentoglou in long jump), also we have three other gold medalists from Rio who will be in Paris (Stefanidi in pole vault - got 4th in Tokyo, Korakaki in shooting - got 6th in Tokyo, Petrounias in gymnastics - got bronze in Tokyo).

i don't think there is one. I had started doing it on my own a couple of weeks ago but then left it at half the sports (and surely there are lots of mistakes and things that should now be uptaded with selections. And I didn't consider team sports unless the whole team is missing)

    • Spring Nationals, Day #1   men's 50m Back: Michele Lamberti, 24.38 (new NR) women's 800m Free: Simona Quadarella, 8.21.01 men's 400m Free: Davide Marchello, 3.47.76 women's 100m Breast: Lisa Angiolini, 1.06.33; Benedetta Pilato, 1.06.39 men's 50m Fly: Lorenzo Gargani, 23.31 women's 400m IM: Giada Alzetta, 4.41.00 men's 50m Free: Leonardo Deplano, 21.64 women's 4*100m Free Relay: best splits: Sara Curtis, 53.53 (1st leg), Emma Virginia Menicucci, 54.02 (internal leg)   the individual champions are qualified to the European Championships per rule, but not a single second ranked swimmer did better than the qualifying time set by the federation, they all have to try again at the Settecolli meet in June (or get the pass in other races here in Riccione this week)   so, day 1 is over and the championship is already very disappointing, especially because none of the youngsters expected to make a step ahead in the hyerarchy of our swimming did show any sign of improvement
    • Serbia- Italy 0-6   I don't know how tjis Serbia can to draw 0-0 with Sweden at home... I have the impression that Sweden plays its best matches against Italy and is weak in the rest? However, 1 place in this group will be difficult to do and we won't avoid a playoff spot for spot on the World Cup. If we're to dream of first place, we absolutely must win in Denmark on Saturday.
    • However it's Antoni Kowalski who becomes the first  player to qualify for the Crucible TV phase after beating  Jamie Jones 10-8 in the last Q round!
    • These stats are ridiculous.  I think ElShorbagy and ElSherbini are still in the Top 10 now.   (By comparison, 15 years is also the time span since Katie Ledecky has lost a 1500m race.)   Source: PSA Facebook
