Wrestling at the Summer Olympic Games 2016

Recommended Posts

The call was indeed controversial , but I have to say the whole officiating was terrible , the rules are not clear and this creates controversy

First the center referee should not stop the match while the American still had the leg and was attacking , that was a mistake in first place. with that stop they "had" to give that 1point and caution to the Cuban which could win the match for him. but they probably gave that 2 pts to Cox to make up for that early mistake. terrible terrible officiating.

btw Cox somehow got robbed in semifinal against the naturalized Russian wrestler (representing Turkey) they had to make up for that.

He has a very bad draw, he can lose in 1st round and not go to repechage, but he can also win the tournament.

He has quite strong Armenian wrestler (former world champion) in the 1/8 then in semifinal he can meet the winner of Gadziyev (Poland) vs Toghrul (Azerbaijan, Chamizo beat him in the semifinal of last WC).So, yes, hard draw. But, of course, i hope he wont be Olympic champion, since we have our own sportsmen in this category :)

Actually he has a good draw, the bottom half is much tougher, the Armenian is indeed a former world champion but he didn't even qualify for Rio. he was lucky to get invited because of that Meldonium case. his 2nd opponent will be probably easy for him. he has a tough semifinal against either Asgarov or Gadzhiev.

    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.

    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.

    • yes, there are (or there was, at least) don't forget that the women's 800m had world and olympic champions like Semenya, Jelimo and Nyonsaba...basically, it was 10 years of DSD winners only the same Athing Mu was suspected to be DSD (never confirmed, but somehow she totally disappeared after Tokyo) then, there were the 2 girls from Namibia (1 won a medal over 200m in Tokyo) in Italy we have the living scandal Valentina Petrillo (a paralympian!!!), who's actually a real man not to mention the weightlifter from who took part into the Tokyo Games so, it's a real problem all around the globe, not just a US crusade against a few woke idiots
