intoronto 4,375 Posted February 9 #33 Share Posted February 9 "Canadian swimming sensation Summer McIntosh has sent yet another shockwave across the swimming world by defeating American legend Katie Ledecky in the 800 metre freestyle. McIntosh touched the wall in a national record time of 8:11.39, beating Ledecky's time of 8:17.12 – a nearly six second gap. Ledecky had not lost an 800m for more than 13 years. That makes McIntosh the second-fastest performer ever in the 800m. Her time would have won gold at the Tokyo Olympics." https://www.cbc.ca/sports/olympics/summer/aquatics/summer-mcintosh-800m-freestyle-national-record-1.7109781 Wow. I hope she considers this race in Paris and drops either the 200 or

Topicmaster1010 2,555 Posted February 9 #35 Share Posted February 9 I'm still picking my jaw off the floor. I have no words. She's absolutely amazing. Now top 5 all time in 6 different events at 17 years old! Personally I think she'll stick with the 200 IM but you never know Josh

I hope she considers this race in Paris and drops either the 200 or 400 I don’t. Sure, she might be in contention for the gold medal, but this event collides with the 200m IM final (mind you both are on the final day of racing, where McIntosh would’ve had a three day break at that point) and her schedule would be pretty busy otherwise. Racing in 4 individual events, and 1-2 relays in 1 1/2 weeks would get you physically (and probably mentally) exhausted. I’m not sure she could handle another 600m added to her Olympic program, especially considering the fact that she’s also the current gold medal favourite in the 200IM. Would've been better if the media respected his wish to keeping a low profile but I guess that's not how the media works. Josh
dullard 467 Posted February 11 #39 Share Posted February 11 According to Le Monde the schedule is being rearranged especially for Marchand so he can do the 200 fly/200 breast double. First Ledecky gets a custom made schedule so she can do all her events without any conflicts and now she won't even swim the 200 individually. Who'll be next? I wouldn't mind if they rearranged the swimming schedule to a 14 day meet so that Summer can swim all the events /s Jinzha, intoronto, dullard and 1 other 1
