And the USA eventing team has been named.

Phillip Dutton (Cubalawn)

Lauren Kieffer (Veronica)

Boyd Martin (Blackfoot Mystery)

Clark Montgomery (Loughan Glen)

Travelling reserve is Maya Black with Doesn't Play Fair. What a cool name for a horse. :d

Phillip going to his 6th Olympics, Boyd going to 2nd.

Bronze medalist from London (and 6 times Olympian) Andrew Nicholson will not go to Rio... As his conflict with New Zealand equestrian federation continues.

Looks like Canadian dressage selection is not over yet. Karen Pavicic managed to become a late entry for competition in Austria next week. With less than a week to go, she is flying today from British Columbia to Europe to try to improve her scores in the very last available competition... What an effort is that, transporting her horse to Europe in a rush. She is just 0.0485 point behind Lane, who is currently holding the second Canadian quota.

New Zealand equestrian teams will be named tomorrow, after that they will need to be confirmed by NZ Olympic Committee. Eventing team will definitely be approved by NZOC, but dressage individual's selection might be tricky. NZOC is looking for top 16 potential and Kiwi riders aren't exactly in that league.

If they don't accept it, then it will be the Phillippines that will get the dressage quota (they have Minimum Eligibility Standard so no worries there).

One of Polish equestrian websites wrote, that one of eventing Western European athletes (they didn't write who exactly) will be withdrawn by his NF from Olympics and Spisak will take his place. Can You somehow confirm it?

Sadly I can. I was looking forward to see the Swiss team, but looks like Melody Johner failed to get selected... Meaning that there will be no Swiss team, but only two individuals presumably...

This is about that situation, but I can't exactly get what happened. Does it say her horse refused to jump one obstacle and that resulted in her not being selected?

She had three refusals over cross-country in Strzegom, what resulted in elimination from that competition. That was her last chance to get selected. Swiss selectors apparently wanted to see a cross-country round with no refusals.

    • North American rugby quotas ( and qualified automatically)    M: and W: and
    • I remember Caroline Golubitsky. She competed with Vezzali for a while but not for long. Rita Konig, whom Vezzali defeated in the final of the Olympic Games in 2000, was more famous, as well as Sabine Bau and Anja Mueller. From what I remember, the Germans competed fiercely with us at some point, but they almost always lost.
    • Shemyakina won a bronze medal in 2014 Worlds and was one of our leader but leave the squad due to pregnancy (she has 2 daughters if I'm not mistaking, so she chose family instead of sport). And speaking of foil we have back in the day Sergiy Golubitskyi, who was Olympic silver medalist and won some medals in other competitions and coached his wife Caroline Golubitskyi - one of the German foil specialists. Even in women's foil we had medal in Women's foil at the European championship - it was Olha Leleiko, our current national coach. So no, we are pretty good fencing country, and depending on generations of our athletes some events are more "profitable" for us and some don't.
    • Shemyakina that was a very strange story. She unexpectedly won the games but before and after she literally achieved nothing. After that success in 2012 she also completely disappeared. It's only in epee that such strange situations. That's why I've always preferred foil and sabre, because the top was more stable there, although that's changing now. The competition has grown a lot all over the world.
