heywoodu 15,135 Posted December 31, 2022 Author #7281 Share Posted December 31, 2022 (edited) Former pope Benedict XVI has died this morning. It's not like I've followed those things a lot, but a quick read suggests he didn't exactly help in making the world a better place...Francis seems to be doing a better job at that. Anyhow, rest in peace. Edited December 31, 2022 by heywoodu .

Hey, ecology needs to make more money after all https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-64140571 Makes perfect sense though. People should absolutely be free to have this as a choice, it quite literally doesn't harm anyone or anything and has basically no disadvantages (unlike cremation, burial and so on). Agreed, using dead material as fertilizer is/should be absolutely normal, without this there probably wouldn't be any life on earth today. Reusing material should be the standard, sadly it isn't in most areas. As long as it is cheaper to just buy something new it probably won't change (and the earth will turn even more into a giant dumpster). Without the need to "preserve" human bodies we also don't need cemeteries anymore -> More space for important things. Maybe churches could make some money by turning their cemeteries into fields to grow vegetables ... Not allowing things like this or assisted suicide makes only sense from a religious point of view, but not from an ethical point of view. Hopefully this will be another step towards "normalizing" humans (just one kind of animal that considers itself above nature/evoluion). Hopefully we will have things like free assisted suicide for everyone, widespread genetic engineering to optimize humans (for example getting rid of genetic disease) or all new kinds of stem-cell therapy very soon. Another interesting topic could be using human feces as a resource. Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached. Like all leftists, our friend is very good.at lofty declarations of principle, not so good at practical reality. I’m presuming he’s not volunteering to do the gathering & spreading. Difference is, here we have quite a lot more resources to take our time in doing all kinds of extensive research and see if there is any good way to use it. Human feces won't run out, after all. It won't save the planet, but no single thing will, and if you've got the resources to study potential benefits in it's use, why not? Even if it doesn't lead to anything useful, it is definitely worth the research. Plenty of examples here of ways in which it can be used in a useful (and safe) way. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reuse_of_human_excreta Edited January 2, 2023 by heywoodu .
