Basketball, Baseball, Football, and Volleyball are all popular in both Asia and Oceania. Rugby is hugely popular in Oceania. Handball is quite popular in Western Asia. Artistic Swimming enjoys popularity in East Asia.

Western Asia? I have never heard someone use that term. The Western-most point of Asia is basically Middle East and Kaukaz (since Turkey belongs to European region despite the fact the actual Asian western-most point is in Anatolia) :p

Artistic Swimming is such a niche sport nobody really cares about that.

Baseball is very popular in Japan and in Korea but other than that it's nowhere compared to cricket (due to the British Empire influence over the decades).

Obviously I know there are a ton of Latinos playing in MLB. Hell, baseball is more popular than football in Venezuela but this sport is non-existent in Europe, Africa & 95% of Asia hence it got bounced from the Olympic line-up already. Nobody would value the Olympic Gold medal over World Series title either

Western Asia is the Middle East. The OCA refers to that region as “Western Asia”.

Artistic Swimming has more participating countries than many sports on the program.

Baseball is also popular in Chinese Taipei, China, Philippines, and many of the Oceania nations (most have baseball/softball fields). It will be played in both the next Asian Games, and Pacific Mini Games.

Really Baseball/Softball getting kicked out of the Olympics shows how Euro-Centric everything is. How the fuck is handball hanging on, but baseball “isn’t diverse enough”? :dunno:

It's called tradition :p And baseball isn't diverse enough, Japan would wipe the floor with all of Asia while in Oceania rugby is the king (and rugby sevens getting the Olympic nod proves this esp. with Fiji taking gold medal). Rugby sevens basically took baseball's Olympic spot for the non-European-centric team sport (which unlike baseball actually has a significant following in Europe). Case closed.

According to Wikipedia, IHF has 201 full members, while WBSC only has 141 countries...

I think handball is diverse enough to be at the Olympics, and the main reason why baseball isn't is that they don't take the Olympics seriously.

This I can see and accept.

And Iceland could wipe the floor with 190/201 IHF members...

Iceland is actually having a worse period in handball. Baseball Olympic final would be USA vs Japan or maybe Venezuela? It's a non-diversity no contest

Yep, nobody is skipping the final month of the regular season or the World Series to play at the Olympics
