Lol I'm not sure what the problem is here? A halftime show is not a bad idea.

What’s the point. We all know it will overrun and delay the start of the second half, making the players more prone to injury. It takes away from the actual spectacle (the football), and overall just feels like a forced way to make the game for ‘Americanised’

If you have ever watch the champions league final, then they do a flashy performace before the start of the match, and they boos alone tell you what the fans think of it.

I mean if delay of game is the problem, surely that will be factored into. Its not going to take away from the soccer match at all imo, especially since most fans wouldn't care bout the 'half-time show'

Its completely against the "idiosyncrasy" of the sport, its something unimaginable outside USA and may be Canada.

I think people overestimate how long the Superbowl halftime show is. It's 13 minutes, and the whole halftime is about 25 minutes. I get that halftime for soccer is only 15 minutes, but I don't think they're going to actually do a whole big SB type performance with a stage and effects. It's probably going to be a few musicians and a light show. It doesn't seem as serious as all this traditionalist pearl clutching is making it out to be. I don't want to be disrespectful, but maybe if fans stopped worrying about the sanctity of the sport and started focusing on removing the embarrassing diving, everyone would benefit.

It's probably difficult to understand if you grew up where this is normal, but for most sport fans outside of North America halftime shows make as much sense as futsal matches on the stage in the middle of a concert.

  • 2 weeks later...

FIFA WC2026 qualifiers are back!!

African WCQ restart today without Congo, the FECOFOOT (Congolese Football Association) has been suspended due to a particularly serious situation of undue interference by third parties in the affairs of the organisation

The Group E remain with only 4 teams.

AFC qualifiers resuming this week, with Japan will become the first nation to come through the WC 2026, and Iraq, Iran, Korea Republic and Uzbekistan are in a strong position to secure World Cup 26 tickets.

OFC fourth round will qualify directly for the WC 2026, the winner of final four (semifinals: New Caledonia vs Tahiti and New Zealand vs Fiji) and the runner-up will go to the FIFA Inter-confederation play-offs

CONMEBOL will play Matchday 13 and 14 with big matches Uruguay-argentina and Brazil-Argentina.

UEFA European Qualifiers begin without the groups involving teams in UEFA Nations League quarterfinals will be finalised after those ties in March.

Only half of groups begin to play in March the other groupss start their campaigns in September.

    • Ukrainian diver Lyskun switches allegiance to Russia, loses all medals | Olympics News | Al Jazeera   'loses all medals'   I would assume Al Jazeera could have been a bit clearer and mention this would presumably only be national medals. I mean, it's not like the Ukrainian federation, or any single federation for that matter, has the power to strip her of her world and European championships medals I hope (not for her sake, but because that would be a super weird precedent)
