men's Team Foil

Situation after today's event (1 tournament left)...

1. :USA 436 (52) Mathematically Qualified through World Ranking
2. :FRA 340 (32) Mathematically Qualified through World Ranking
3. :ITA 280 (32) Mathematically Qualified through World Ranking

4. :HKG 252 (30) Currently Qualified through World Ranking
5. :KOR 250 (32) Currently Qualified, Asian Continental spot
6. :RUS 244 (28) Mathematically Qualified, European Continental spot
7. :JPN 215 (19) Out of the Games
8. :CHN 209 (23) Out of the Games
9. :EGY 203 (20) Mathematically Qualified, African Continental spot
10. :GER 203 (23) Out of the Games
11. :GBR 175 (20) Out of the Games
12. :POL 158 (21) Out of the Games
13. :UKR 154 (19) Out of the Games
14. :CAN 141 (8) Currently Qualified, Panamerican Continental spot
15. :DEN 140 (8) Out of the Games

Note: in parentheses the number of points currently to be discarded after the last tournament...

so, in the men's Foil we have 3 World Ranking (USA, FRA and ITA) and 2 Continental places (Russia in Europe and Egypt in Africa) already locked...

also the Panamerican Continental spot is basically (even if not mathematically yet) booked by Canada...

it only remains to be seen if Russia can finbally make it to the Top 4, leaving one between Hong Kong or South Korea home or if one of the 2 Asian teams can keep their top 4 place, thus helping the other Continental mate to qualify...

in case Russia make it to the top 4, in fact, only 1 between HKG or KOR would be able to use the Asian Continental spot and a new race for the European teams would start, even if we have to say that more than a race, it would be a gift to Germany, as they are well ahead of all the other European teams at the moment out of the Games (and only GBR, with a highly unlikely combination of results, would still have a very remote chance to overtake GER)...

tbh, 4 years ago the race for the Olympic spots was a lot closer and more exciting in all weapons (except maybe for the usual suspect, the women's foil)...:nopompom:

Quarter finals:

POL-UKR

EST-USA

CHN-ITA

FRA-RUS

wow! our girls won against Romania...

very, very important result for them (even if we will likely have to wait quite a long time before we know all the minor placings and therefore we can make a complete analysis of today's event...and in any case, in this weapon we still have 2 more events left after this weekend)...

So, we lost to Ukraine, @phelps how this will affect for our place in ranking?

if, and only if, it's true that ITA vs EST is the gold medal bout and UKR vs FRA the bronze medal bout, according to the other info that we know for sure, this is the projected ranking at the moment:

1. :CHN 278 Q WR
2. :POL 274 Q WR
3. :RUS 272 Q WR
4./5. :USA 250 Q WR/Q Pan-Am spot
5./4. :ITA 242/254 Q Euro spot/ Q WR
6. :EST 200/212 if ITA go 4th, then Q Euro spot, otherwise Out for now, but Q through Repechage (cause EGY are out of the top 16)
7. :KOR 195 Q Asian spot
8. :UKR 189 if ITA are 4th, EST get the Euro spot and USA get the Pan-Am spot, then they get the Repechage spot, otherwise they're Out for now
9. :FRA 175
10. :GER 147
11. :ROU 142
12. :CAN 138 if USA are 4th, then Q Pan-Am spot, otherwise Out for now
13. :HUN 136
14. :SUI 129
15. :HKG 117/125
16. :JPN 109/117
17. :EGY  96/104
18. :BRA  84/92

p.s. remember that here we have still 2 events left after tonight, not only 1 like in the foil competitions...

    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA
