just 3 weeks to go...:cheer:

so, it's time to open the new thread dedicated to the main circuit of this sport...

to be remembered: the Fencing World Cup is made of 2 different kinds of competitions, the regular World Cup events (which always host the Individual and the Team event of a given weapon in the same weekend and in the same location) and the Grand Prix events (which always host only the Individual events in both genders of a given weapon in the same weekend and in the same location and give more points for the World Ranking away for the various final placings than the regular World Cup events)...

and beside the main circuit, there's also a secondary tour, made of the socalled Satellite Tournaments...

basically, those events have a second tier starting field and sometimes are used by a few top tier fencers only as a warm-up for the upcoming World Cup circuit...

but, since they still give a few points for the World ranking away, which might prove decisive for the Individual Olympic Qualification (especially in those Continents where the top fencers almost never reach the top placings in the World Cup events), I decided to post also the Schedule of this second tier Circuit (and the winner of the tournaments already completed)...

As for women foil we've register the return of Astrid Guyart over a year (Satellite in Spain). Important info for our 3 traditional rivals in this team event.

Do you think Spain will be able to qualify at least one fencer? We already missed London and Rio and it would be quite disappointing to miss the Olympics for 3rd time in a row, but European spots are really difficult to achieve without having a top team.

    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA
