So @Rafa Maciel does this mean that @Phelps admits that even a below strength :GBR team is better than :ITA ?  ;)

I guess my take on this is that on the women's side, GB are benefiting from an improving Italy and vice versa - it's pushing both teams to get better and better and they know that there is a potential medal up for grabs in Paris. I would say that both teams rely on their big names performing and perhaps GB have an edge in terms of the depth of squad available - shown by the great performance from Beckie Downie on the uneven bars.

The British men are stronger than Italy but the squad that we have taken to Turkey isn't our strongest so Italy taking the gold was a fair reflection of the teams current status. GB really need Joe Fraser and Giarnni Regini Moran to be fully fit and more consistent performances from Jake Jarman. Add in Courtney Tulloch and the possible return of Max Whitlock and that is a pretty solid team with medal potential across multiple events.

The one benefit for GB at the moment is that having got their Olympic qualification in the bag last year, this is a free year for them - so everyone that needs to is going under the surgeon's knife now and/or reworking their routines to increase degree of difficulty.

tbh, very disappointing performance by our girls (they scored almost 166 points last week in the Jesolo Trophy vs the Americans -tbh, a 3rd tier team from the USA).

as usual, the balance beam was a disaster with falls, mistakes and low D scores to start.

even at the floor, which is supposed to be one of our strong apparatus, we had a lot of troubles (we couldn't even use the 4th girl) and mistakes.

well deserved loss, in the end.

hopefully our media will stop overexposing these girls. they are good, but not that good as they are depicted.

or maybe not...our media usually never learn from their capital mistakes.

True of much of the media everywhere.

I pretty much agree with that assessment. Little to choose between the two countries women's teams when at full strength, while the GB men are clearly stronger than Italy at this stage subject to the same proviso about both teams being at full strength.

In the absence of the men you mentioned this was the least experienced men's team I can recall in a very long time. Jarman only made his breakthrough last year, Tulloch - while experienced - only competes on rings and vault, leaving the other three competing in their first major international event.

    • Good luck then! Keep us updated please!!!   And see you in 2026 olympics!!!
    • Apparently this season will be last one in Kamil Stoch career if his results wont be enough good for his standards.
    • Such a nice one for Colturi ! That was fun. It almost looked like a script with the cameras focusing on Colturi a couple of times before her first run and showcasing the potential of youngster and she didn't disappoint.      I hope Colturi skis for Albania forever. So much fun to cheer her with the Albanian flag.    I don't get it why everyone is being so critical of Colturi, you got no right to criticize a personal decision, as most European nations use imported athletes in many sports like wrestling and cheer them on like their.   Would you spend hours criticizing Frank Chamizo for switching to Italy rather than playing for Cuba?

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
