  • 7 months later...

:FRA Oriane Bertone wins the qualification round ahead of :ITA Laura Rogora (who was surprisingly good in the Boulder section), thanks also to a very easy Lead section, where 7 girls topped the wall (and only 4 of them can be considered Lead specialists)

3rd was :SRB Stasa Gejo

Tomorrow the men start their competition with their qualification round

Pretty dominant performance from :GBR Toby Roberts to finish the semi-final with a 50+ point lead over :CZE Adam Ondra.

Unfortunately have a nasty feeling that the positions are going to be reversed when the rubber hits the road in tomorrow's all important final.

It's a solid Qualifier for our biggest hope Zhenya Kazbekova :UKR with important incremental improvements in her technique after training in the USA and Canada. Good experience after injury in a previous World Qualifier in France and failed the COVID-19 test right before the European Qualifier.

:ITA Laura...

unfortunately, she wasted her best boulder in the qualification round...if only she could repeat that kind of performance today, she would have got the OQP :nopompom:

Frankly speaking, Laura's weak link is definitely a B-component in B&L, so it was quite predictable.  But she really fought hard in the Lead wall, I think she easily qualifies via OQS.

    • Exactly. Recent developments of the construction haven't been particularly encouraging, and while they'll probably get everything sorted just in time, a lot of North American fans have been quite vocal about every minor inconvenience.

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
