Bermuda is down and out, while Trinidad and Tobago is about to get blown away by the Canadian navy.

What a disappointing qualifier in terms of universality... Hope to see some continental restrictions next time around (like there are in rowing).

Not sure if that's feasible. Outside of Laser/Laser Radial there aren't many other nations competing in North America/Caribbean so we'd end up with a lot of reallocated spots. For example if we had the same restriction as rowing we would have reallocated the Women's RS:X, 470 and 49erFX and possibly the Men's 470 and/or 49er, depending on which boat Mexico decided to compete in.

What hurts more is that they reduced our Laser/Laser Radial continental quota down to one and made the other one a competition against Central/South America

Looks like :ARU Mack van den Eerenbeemt didn't use his historic Pan Am success at all to launch his Olympic campaign. :nopompom:

Yeah where’d he go off to? He’s probably the best windsurfer in Pan America (even if his Pan Am performance didn’t reflect that)

As per the results website it appears 470 and laser boats completed 7 races and RS:X sailors race 10, while Finn class completed all,  with only the medal race remaining.
That being said, here are the Olympic quotas already decided:

470 M :CAN

470 W :USA

Finn :MEX

Laser Radial :MEX

RS:X M :MEX

RS:X W :CAN

I am a bit lost here with updating the qualification thread, is the event finished or will resume tomorrow with another races, and the Laser/Laser Radial events are the only with 2 qualified boats both, right ?

Sorry for dumb questions, but I am really completely lost in sailing and how it works

It was completed today. Only one quota was available for both Laser events. :TTO Trinidad and Tobago qualified in men's Laser.

    • North American rugby quotas ( and qualified automatically)    M: and W: and
    • I remember Caroline Golubitsky. She competed with Vezzali for a while but not for long. Rita Konig, whom Vezzali defeated in the final of the Olympic Games in 2000, was more famous, as well as Sabine Bau and Anja Mueller. From what I remember, the Germans competed fiercely with us at some point, but they almost always lost.
    • Shemyakina won a bronze medal in 2014 Worlds and was one of our leader but leave the squad due to pregnancy (she has 2 daughters if I'm not mistaking, so she chose family instead of sport). And speaking of foil we have back in the day Sergiy Golubitskyi, who was Olympic silver medalist and won some medals in other competitions and coached his wife Caroline Golubitskyi - one of the German foil specialists. Even in women's foil we had medal in Women's foil at the European championship - it was Olha Leleiko, our current national coach. So no, we are pretty good fencing country, and depending on generations of our athletes some events are more "profitable" for us and some don't.
    • Shemyakina that was a very strange story. She unexpectedly won the games but before and after she literally achieved nothing. After that success in 2012 she also completely disappeared. It's only in epee that such strange situations. That's why I've always preferred foil and sabre, because the top was more stable there, although that's changing now. The competition has grown a lot all over the world.
