Sorry, I was referring to how you've characterized the crowd throughout the tournament in such a negative light. Sure there were some unruly moments over the last 2 weeks, but I thought the crowd today was simply rambunctious because they were cheering on a hometown hero, same as the crowd would be in Wimbledon for a Brit, etc. I don't agree with the "US Open crowd being US open crowd' take.

Ok :)

Yes, I’m aware of that. However, many of the world’s best players will still show up. I only know the names of players with Olympic medals or multiple grand slam titles.

I’d put Football as first by the way. Then Baseball, then Tennis, then Golf, then Basketball. Those are the main offenders. However, I believe only Baseball and Football should be kicked from the Olympics.

What about cycling? I think winning the Tour de France is bigger than winning an olympic gold? I think you could also name boxing (becoming WBA world heavyweight champion is probably more important than winning an olympic gold in the same category) or Sailing (America's Cup) or Skateboarding (X Games) or Triathlon (Ironman).

It is always good when Serena doesn't win a slam title. The sad thing is that she is still able to reach a slam final that easily. Andreescu's victory should give hope to someone like Townsend, if you can win a slam looking like Andreescu, then there really isn't anything that should stop Townsend. I am not sure about how long Andreescu will stay at the top, after all someone like Ostapenko was also supposed to be the nixt big thing just to disappear very quickly. Personally i hope that Bencic will be the next one of the younger girls to win a slam, 3 or 4 years ago i thought that she would be the first one to do so. The fact that Williams is the only one to reach more than 1 slam final this year is also not very encouraging. On the one hand the absence of top players makes things kind of exciting and unpredictable, on the other hand i think that it would be good for women's tennis if some sort of rivalry could develop. It is almost impossible for casual fans to keep track with women's tennis, because there is a new face every couple of months and barely anyone has any consistency.

Medvedev is playing some good tennis, but unfortunately he's playing Berlin wall at his peak, any top player would have lost against Nadal today

I don't think so. This is not peak Nadal at all :d

Off course it's not his best,  but he's not making any errors today and forcing Medvedev to make some

    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.
    • Mary Rand has died aged 86. The first British woman to win a Gold in track and field at the 1964 Tokyo Games (where she also took home a further two medals in the Women’s 4x100m relay and Pentathlon).
    • Athing Mu competed in the USA trials in 2024 and 2025 post the 2023 rule changes. She also won Gold in 2022 and Bronze in 2023.    Jelimo the jury is out. She doesn’t look male like the other two do.
    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
    • badminton queen Carolina Marin announced that she can't take part into the home Europeans in the upcoming weeks because of her injured knee and calls it a career 😭
    • yes, there are (or there was, at least) don't forget that the women's 800m had world and olympic champions like Semenya, Jelimo and Nyonsaba...basically, it was 10 years of DSD winners only the same Athing Mu was suspected to be DSD (never confirmed, but somehow she totally disappeared after Tokyo) then, there were the 2 girls from Namibia (1 won a medal over 200m in Tokyo) in Italy we have the living scandal Valentina Petrillo (a paralympian!!!), who's actually a real man not to mention the weightlifter from who took part into the Tokyo Games so, it's a real problem all around the globe, not just a US crusade against a few woke idiots
    • First big meet ofthe Outdoor Tour is the Maury Plant from Melbourne tomorrow morning.  Good few people from Poland last weekend have made the long plane trip to Oz.   https://worldathletics.org/competitions/world-athletics-continental-tour/news/world-olympic-stars-maurie-plant-melbourne
