Nick Kyrgios won't play at AO 2023.

Netflix curse is the new black. This shapes up to be the worst AO for the hosts since forever. Even in the mid-90s they at least had Woodford & Woodbridge in doubles

Personally I won't miss the guy.

Not a fan, to say the least.

 

Olivia Gadecki is through to the 2nd round. Polish roots I guess.

No Kyrgios vs Rune battle in 3rd though... Good.

Iga Świątek got past a tricky R1 vs Jule Niemeier and didn't need three sets like at USO '22.

 

She plays Maria Camila Osorio Serrano in R2 which should be a much easier match despite some expected support for the Colombian.

Virtually no surprises in both the men's and women's sides in the first day.  Can't remember the last Slam, where no high profile name didn't lose in a full days play. Old and grizzled retiree Wawrinka doesn't fit the bill with his last few (injured) years.
