we went out by 0.27, so yes, it's Ceccon fault mainly (he's the one who left the back at the start, not to mention the time lost, as he's the one with more differential between his chances and what he actually swum)

however, it's not the missed final the real problem, it's the bad attitude and the indiscipline...that's unacceptable, especially by your supposed team leader (in terms of talent)

If Italy had a good freestyle leg, Ceccon could have been even slower and they'd still have made it. In the end, the whole performance just wasn't good (including Ceccon), as is usually the case with these things :p

Of course the attitude is somewhat annoying, although it is logical that for him the things that count more than anything are individual medals (as is often the case, individual champions are remembered a lot better than someone who was a member of a medal winning team).

here in Italy the team events/relays always have a special place in the heart of the people and in the media

it's difficult to understand, but really, they are a lot more celebrated and remembered than any individual effort

look for instance at an incon like Valentina Vezzali, she's won more than most sportsmen in the history of all the sports, but it's the "dream team", the women's foil team that's always expected to deliver and consequently celebrated or criticized if they win or not

it's Jacobs that won the 100m in Tokyo, but it's the relay gold the most celebrated (Tamberi is a lot more known and supported as individual than Jacobs, just to say)

and I could continue

sometimes we're a strange Country...:dunno:

@Werloc You said Meilutyte had been in a depression and such, is there also something known about drug (ab)use and the likes? I don't mean in a doping sense, but 'recreational', so to say.

Femke Heemskerk mentioned that on TV, but I couldn't find anything about it :p

That's understandable though, with Jacobs being the stereotypical testosteron bomb one sees in sprinting, and Tamberi being a totally different but way more relaxed/nice/friendly/easy to support looking kind of person :p

Anyhow, let's see how it goes next year :p

    • I still shocks, that a country of 4-5 million inhabitants? can be a powerhouse in almost every winter sport + handball, football (most recently with Haaland) and athletics: Ingebrigtsen, Warholm, etc. With such a small population, they can't be missing out on any major talent, surely? This must be the best training system in the world...
