My choose have only one change respect at London 2012: Japan instead Hungary :mumble: but Brazil could have the " Gold bonus" (of the hosts) :p and with 8 golds will be in Top10

If you add money combined with population it is difficult to look beyond the big five from Europe - France, Germany, GB, Italy & Russia - and the big five from the Pacific Rim - Australia, China, Japan, South Korea & USA.

However, one and sometimes two of these countries has a poor games at each Olympics and so someone else can make it into the top ten. If this happens in 2016, NZ is my first choice and Hungary my second.

By the way I'm surprised that a number of people think Germany won't make the top ten. As I'd have thought they were a banker I'd be interested to know why there is some pessimism about their chances.

I already said this in the old forum, but I'm quite confident Brazil will win at least 10 golds.

- at least 3 volleyball events

- 1 swimming (possibly the women marathon)

- 1 Sailing (host always seems to win at least 1)

- at least 2 in Judo

- at least 1 in Boxing (maybe more, this ALWAYS happens in boxing)

- 1 Men's Football (something can happen, but they will have the most complete team for sure)

- 1 or 2 between: Gymnastics, Canoeing Sprint, Modern Pentathlon, Tennis Doubles, Shooting, Athletics

I am surprised Italy is on the list

Why?  In the last seven editions only one time we fail TOP 10 (Barcelona 1992 #12) ;)

Imo New Zeland has better chance for top 10 than Italy (rowing,cycling,sailing,canoeing,golf,rugby,athletics-in all sports huge chances for gold medals + medals chances in swimming, equestrian)

Kenya and Brazil are missing, they are realistic top 10, not the "other option" ;p like Poland, Spain or Canada :d, Ukraine can struggle to beat Brazil and Kenya

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
