Good news: Wimbledon is cutting Men’s Doubles to three sets.  They will use the time available to increase Women’s Singles to five sets.

Had missed that so far but wow, that's sad news :(

I'm still waiting for all tennis to move into a one-set format in every tournament, so it's more urban.

Big win today for 18 yo Dimitra Pavlou :GRE at the ITF W40 event in Split, Croatia

The world number 790 defeated world number 159 Elena Gabriela Ruse :ROU 7-6(5) 7-5 in the first round!

She came from qualifying with a 6-1 6-4 win over world number 403 Anna Turati :ITA and 6-0 6-2 over world number 576 Adrienn Nagy :HUN

Very good results from Pavlou this week, who is Sakkari's first cousin. With the resources she has access to, being the niece of a former top 50 player and cousin of a current top 10 player, I wonder how far she can go in her career.

It's a shame that Maria Sakkari's siblings did not ever play tennis, Greece could've had more good players

Other than the expected 0-5 for :ITA I just hope and wish the captain will give Renáta Jamrichová the opportunity to play and gain very needed experiences, she is basically our Tennis existence only hope for the future

Slovakia almost came back from 0-2 down to win, I believe they even served for the match in deciding doubles but lost 2-3 in the end.

I wouldn´t overestimate it. It only happened because Italy fielded their benchwarmer for the last two Singles, otherwise it would have ended 0-5

That benchwarmer would be Jasmine Paolini? She's fallen off the pace in the last few months, used to be Italian #2 behind Giorgi but she's basically dropped behind Trevisan and Cocciaretto on the pecking order to say the very least.

Just bought a ticket for the Vancouver 2023 Laver Cup :bounce::cheer: ticket ended up costing me 483$, but I got pretty solid seating so well worth it IMO. Super super excited, my first time ever getting to watch a professional tennis match live.

Really hope the matches are good that session. (I personally am hoping for FAA v. Meddy, but anything other than a Kyrgios match would be fine with me. He’s an entertaining player, but I don’t like his antics.)

    • And of course the British being famous for curmudgeons, there were always plenty of curmudgeons to quote.  Then of course from the opening ceremony and the cycle race on the very first morning it was obviously going to be triumph, so everyone just shut up for a while.
    • Yep, the amount of emergency services I heard at some point was a little extreme (for our little town), so I checked what was going on and saw they were all being called to a specific location. Until then I thought maybe it was part of a parade of trucks and agricultural vehicles that was on it's way from the next town over, decorated with lights and stuff.   Since I knew it was on the parade route, I was sure one of those big vehicles had hit people somehow (there were, besides the many vehicles, also two helicopters on the way, meaning it certainly wasn't about a single victim).   We picked our bikes and went to take a look, absolutely chaos in the area. Never saw so many services combined together, fire trucks from 20km away, ambulance after ambulance came racing by, people frantically trying to make way for them (the roads weren't really closed yet).   While there we heard someone who had been close say that the parade hadn't arrived yet and what seemed to have happened was that a car from the other side came onto the roundabout and simply never turned. "It's a massive drama over there, unbelievable", he said.   Quite quickly rumours started spreading of course, the first one turned out to be true: a middle aged (local) woman was behind the wheel and seems to have become unwell. Local security camera showed the car going at high speed right before the roundabout.   Plenty of rumours going around in terms of who were involved of course, and people keeping each other up to date to see if they know this or that family and such...   Never expected my little town to be big news in the Netherlands, even including some breaking broadcasts, live reporters and everything, damn. By far the biggest thing to happen here in my memory

    • For me, these were very good Olympics, and British sport benefited greatly from them, and is still benefiting. I fear it will be much worse here. Canada also benefited very good on Vancouver 2010 – this is very good see in the medal standings of subsequent Winter Games after 2010 and earlier.
    • Nobody hates Britain more than the British media so… I recall it being quite a pessimistic tone before the London games started.
    • I'm curious what was written before London 2012? Did they attack their own country, or did they just keep quiet?

    • Very true point.  Although I think at this point everyone is just holding their collective breath until the test event.  The NHL isn't going to rage anymore until then because it's not like that would make the arena progress go any quicker
