I heard some of you were worried about the lack of Polish fans at the European Games. But do not worry, I found them!

I had a great time at the Volleyball Nations League in Rotterdam today. The Polish fans sold out the stadium at :POL - :ITA and were 10x more present than the Dutch fans at :NED - :SRB. And some really great games as well! Sadlu the Dutch lost in the end.

I'm really impressed with the quality of this tournament overall, lots of fantastic games.

Agreed! The Netherlands for example have played close five set games vs :ARG:POL:IRI:SRB already.

Week 2 done, not very happy with Canada's results/how they've been playing. They played two pre-tournament exhibition matches against powerhouse Brazil, and played really well to beat them in the first, before dropping the second. Gave me high hopes for them heading into VNL. But VNL has been disastrous for us so far, 2-6 and now our chance at Olympic qualification is starting to look unlikely. We played well against Cuba (Five-set win), Japan (Four-set loss), and France (Three-set loss) but other than that :hairpull: (Particularly our match against Germany's B team)

Sammelvuo needs to integrate more creative ways of offense in his coaching, it's mainly hard swings, and they're pretty error prone too. Also, we need to improve on side out, too many easy digs by our opponents. Currie is legit (Easily our best defensive player), Schwarz, Maar, Demyanenko, and Sclater have all been playing really well. Ever since Tokyo 2020, Hoag has proved time and time again why he shouldn't be a starter. Howe, Vernon-Evans, and Loeppky are all absent from the squad, probably choosing to sit this tournament out, as I can't imagine they wouldn't have been chosen.

The mighty great USA rejected visa for almost half of the Iran volleyball NT players and almost the whole coaching staff.

only 12 players (from the wide list, some of them wasn't really supposed to play) received visa +1 coach. half of the starters from the 2nd week are already heading back home, two more players + couple of coaches are still waiting in Frankfurt for a possible last second visa.

that's great, isn't it ?

this is happening over and over and nothing happens, law of the jungle

PS: apparently FIVB won't count 3rd week results for Iran in the World Ranking. not sure if the same applies for the opposite teams (FRA/BUL/ARG/CUB) that's how they convinced Iran VF to send this incomplete team instead of the original decision of not going at all. (that's kind of damage control, Iran wasn't prepared for this VNL and could probably lose more ranking points)

    • need to work on the celebrations... or just drop them?   Btw, these jerseys suck and I remember Zambia playing in all white with red numbers. At least they have orange on national flag but still...
    • British Columbia in general and Vancouver in particular are awesome and it’s great more people got to discover it thanks to Vancouver 2010.
    • And of course the British being famous for curmudgeons, there were always plenty of curmudgeons to quote.  Then of course from the opening ceremony and the cycle race on the very first morning it was obviously going to be triumph, so everyone just shut up for a while.
    • Yep, the amount of emergency services I heard at some point was a little extreme (for our little town), so I checked what was going on and saw they were all being called to a specific location. Until then I thought maybe it was part of a parade of trucks and agricultural vehicles that was on it's way from the next town over, decorated with lights and stuff.   Since I knew it was on the parade route, I was sure one of those big vehicles had hit people somehow (there were, besides the many vehicles, also two helicopters on the way, meaning it certainly wasn't about a single victim).   We picked our bikes and went to take a look, absolutely chaos in the area. Never saw so many services combined together, fire trucks from 20km away, ambulance after ambulance came racing by, people frantically trying to make way for them (the roads weren't really closed yet).   While there we heard someone who had been close say that the parade hadn't arrived yet and what seemed to have happened was that a car from the other side came onto the roundabout and simply never turned. "It's a massive drama over there, unbelievable", he said.   Quite quickly rumours started spreading of course, the first one turned out to be true: a middle aged (local) woman was behind the wheel and seems to have become unwell. Local security camera showed the car going at high speed right before the roundabout.   Plenty of rumours going around in terms of who were involved of course, and people keeping each other up to date to see if they know this or that family and such...   Never expected my little town to be big news in the Netherlands, even including some breaking broadcasts, live reporters and everything, damn. By far the biggest thing to happen here in my memory

    • For me, these were very good Olympics, and British sport benefited greatly from them, and is still benefiting. I fear it will be much worse here. Canada also benefited very good on Vancouver 2010 – this is very good see in the medal standings of subsequent Winter Games after 2010 and earlier.
    • Nobody hates Britain more than the British media so… I recall it being quite a pessimistic tone before the London games started.
    • I'm curious what was written before London 2012? Did they attack their own country, or did they just keep quiet?

    • Very true point.  Although I think at this point everyone is just holding their collective breath until the test event.  The NHL isn't going to rage anymore until then because it's not like that would make the arena progress go any quicker
