European Games 2023

For me this event is one big failure, with every day it gets worse and it didn't even started yet. We are just 10 days away from Opening Ceremony and we still don't have exact schedule of every sport, qualified athletes and how big teams will be aren't announced as well.

THIS is the real deal! Imagine being a so called "big event" and not knowing the athletes, which are going to compete just a week before it starts. This is a tremendous failure for everyone involved, but especially the hosts. Delegations are going to start arriving this week, i'm hoping they at least know where to house them..

I guess, the reason we do not know the entries is mainly because several nations have still not finished their teams selections, for example, Slovak NOC is expecting to have its "Team nomination" general assembly only this Thursday... barely 5 days before the start of the first competitions :p

The “sport entries” deadline was on June 2, so delegations should mostly be finalized at this point. Thursday’s event is likely just a fun formality for the NOC.

Yeah their plan is to focus on sports that will double as Olympic qualifiers, they projected around 15-20 sports will be held.

Honestly, not a terrible idea. One of the main arguments against the European Games is that they lack relevance. However, if the EOC turns it into more of an Olympic qualification festival that might help somewhat with that problem. It might also bring some more attention to qualification events as well.

Personally, I like what Poland/EOC have done with the sports program for this edition. Olympic sports that double as qualifiers or continental championships, and then some other fun “World Games” type sports that add some intrigue to the program and introduce people to some different sports.

Also, about the state of organization, I obviously can’t have the best gauge since I won’t be attending these games in-person. However, from an outsiders perspective, I feel like there’s a lot being done right: the broadcast deal with EBU/Eurosport, a diversified sports program, solid branding (maybe more local promotion needed), involvement of the local public in the selection of mascots, relying on venues that exist rather than building expensive new facilities, etc.

There’s always negativity before the European Games, but I enjoyed both of the last editions. We’ll just have to see how these go once they begin.

Athletes in second/third division will be eligible for individual event medals in athletics. The rankings will be based off best marks overall (I believe). There will be no medal ceremonies for the individual events due to scheduling/lodging conflicts (athletes will be given medals by their NOCs at a later date).

Additionaly this music line-up for ceremony looks like good set for an local concert on beach during summer and not the biggest (in theory) sport event in Europe in this year.

Not mentioning an promotion about existence of the Games, which started just few days ago in tv and I saw just few bilboards on streets informing about that event.

I think the schedule for each sport has been available for a while - it's available towards the bottom of each individual sport's page

I think the biggest problem is that neither us nor the people working on wiki the exact qualification time/performance/requirement. So we cannot actually make a list of athletes and national teams who qualified. We all share what our media has shared. But as for now, we don't have the access to the information of the qualifying standards and events. I think this should rapidly change before the next Games in 2025.

Bad news as I feared...

Eurosport complete schedule for 20th June (Day -1 of the Games) is on their site and there not a single stream prepared from the European Games for that day.

Was quite excited about the event, and now I will not see anything apart Athletics and canoe slalom (the only prepared broadcasts of our TV) :(

Won't it all be on Eurosport player? As they obtained all the rights for European Games, shouldn't it be on Eurosport player on several channels? Just like Tokyo and Beijing Games. I will wait until next Monday/Tuesday and see what schedule is on ....... I guess maybe cause they are also not sure about the certain time (not day) of each event, that's why the schedule is not fully online yet. I guess we will know more this weekend.
