Is this right about modern pentathon - today was just semifinals, I thought the finals gave out the 8 spots?

Sorry, think I get it now - so many countries in the final 18 have double and triple entries, these spots must mathematically be a top 8 NOC in the final.

Okay, what’s the deal with the horn blare at the start of competitions. I swear I heard that same noise in Europe when I was over there…

It's the start of the St. Mary's Trumpet Call - another thing heavily associated with Kraków for several decades.

A lot of cities in Europe - especially those dating to medieval times - have similar calls but it's obiously not the same one for each city ;)

Damn, the whole Mongol Invasion story was made up!  :yikes:  You'll be telling me next that no town in Holland was ever saved from flooding by a brave boy covering up a crack in the dijk!

Yeah, the story about the trumpeter is a medieval myth but the Mongol Invasion was real :p I presume most adults in Poland have heard the Kraków Trumpet Call hundreds if not thousands of times in their lives. It's played every hour from the tower of the St. Mary's church so any tourist who's been to Kraków must have heard it numerous times as well ;)

If you were to judge the media attention of these games in your countries vs the European Championships, how would it goes ?

In France, I'd sayd, it will rank something like that :

- European Championships : 6/10

- European Games : 1/10 (basically World Games tier)

For us it's pretty much the same.

We get 24/7 coverage of both multi-sport events on national television, MTVA also has dedicated streaming channels for both. The main sports newspaper also covers both and has a leading news on it whenever we win a medal.

Outside of the national sports channel and national sports newspaper the media attention in Hungary is nonexistent, but that applies to pretty much all sport events here with the exception of the big ones (Olympic Games, FIFA World Cup and Euros, F1, Champions League).

So yeah, I would say that the overall attention to these two are the same, and they definitely get more attention than the usual, separated ECh of any smaller Olympic sport. Technically these multi-sport events are a success in Hungary, they achieved what they wanted (more attention to continental competitions).

European Championships: 10/10 (They were in Munich, after all. TV stations broadcasted live for several hours every day. Ratings were very good. And Gina Lückenkemper and Niklas Kaul were voted German sportsperson of the year after their titles, in spite of the fact that Germany had some World and Olympic Champions.)

European Games: 3/10 (Basically nothing. European Team Championships in Athletics got some live coverage, though, which is why I lifted this from a 1 to a 3.)
