Swimming World Cup, Stage #1 in :GER Berlin has started earlier Today.

 

and despite being the first "serious" meet of the Winter season, some interesting results have been recorded.

 

namely, :HKG Siobhan Haughey made her comeback after a few months and easily won the W 400m freestyle in 3.56.

 

:RSA Matthew Sates won the same race among the men with a notable 3.36 ahead of :USA Kieran Smith.

 

:RSA Chad Le Clos gave RSA another gold medal in the M 100m fly with 48.58.

 

World and European champion :ITA Niccolò Martinenghi is not in his best shape yet and he was beaten by :USA Nick Fink (56.43) and :USA Reece Whitley (57.04).

:HKG Siobhan Haughey took the W 200m Free in 1.51.36

:USA Nick Fink once again beating :ITA Niccolò Martinenghi in the M 50 Breast (25.86 vs 26.12)

:RSA Matthew Sates won the M 200m IM in 1.51.6

:LTU Ruta Meilutyte took the W 100m Breast in 1.03.07 (as already written by @Werloc)

:RSA Chad Le Clos won the M 200m Fly in 1.49.62 (3 secs slower than the new WR)

:AUS Kyle Chalmers dominated the M 100m Free in 45.88

:GER Isabel Gose won the W 800m Free in 8.14.88

:SWE Louise Hansson won the W 100m Fly in 55.33

:USA Shaine Casas edged out long course world champion :ITA Thomas Ceccon 49.54 to 49.62 in the M 100m Back

:LTU Ruta Meilutyte won the W 50m Breast in 28.60, which is the new SC European Record and just 4/100 shy of :JAM Alia Atkinson's WR

:HKG Siobhan Haughey completed her personal triple, winning also the W 100m Free in 51.59

:RSA Matthew Sates outtouched :AUS Kyle Chalmers in the M 200m Free, 1.40.88 to 1.41.09; :USA Kieran Smith was 3rd in 1.42.30

Rūta Meilutytė was the biggest "what could have been" story from Lithuanian sports, it's really nice she decided to give it another go.

 

Can't say I really believed she would be close to WR times, but it just shows how much of a 50m expert she was, the 100m is going to remain somewhat a question mark probably.
