Curling Canada has to be thanking every god in the universe for mixed doubles having been included in the Olympics...

So disappointing :(

Yikes! Not the best day overall, but the two short track medals (although the bronze in the relay is disappointing since they made the one error) and the ski cross qualification. I'm also pretty stoked about Valerie Grenier's 6th place finish in the combined. Very positive result for a 21 year old when our alpine program needs a bit of a boost.

With the Olympics ending who is your choice for flag bearer at the closing ceremonies?

No one really stands out in terms of publicity created outside of Virtue and Moir, but there's no chance for them to be the flag bearers again. I personally feel it should go to Alex Gough for winning Canada's first luge medal. Kim Boutin is also a worthy choice for winning three individual medals in short track. Mark McMorris may end up in the conversation (due to his comeback from injury) if he wins a medal in big air and of course there's Mikael Kingsbury. Ted-Jan Bloemen should also get some consideration for winning two individual medals too.

Serwa and Phelan go 1-2 in Ski Cross, and Osmond holds on for bronze in figure skating! Canada now has 27 medals, most ever for Canada at a winter games

    • Yep. Not sure if it was the NOC or the biathlon federation (I assume the latter) that put him in the Livigno training 'world' with a former Italian biathlete as coach, but they can definitely also be blamed:  almost everyone involved in that shitshow got the motivation just sucked out of them by the methods and shitty atmosphere until they either retired or changed country

    • Lots of injuries, including often just pure bad-luck stuff like a fall from a set of stairs, illness, and of course the Sochi tragedy in 2014: one of her biathlon friends, young Julia Pieper, killed herself with a biathlon rifle early during the Olympics (she wasn't on the team, but was a training partner of both Preuss and Dahlmeier). Obviously a hard hit, which led to terrible Olympics for Preuss, with a DNF, awful results in her other individual races and a relay where she was the first runner for Germany, but fell early on, got snow in her rifle and broke a pole and ended up losing almost 3 minutes, which in turn resulted in Germany being off the podium for the first time ever.   After that came all the injuries and illness and everything. So glad to finally see her have her big individual global gold, that is so well deserved.
