What about some non-olympics event like squash, snooker or Motorsport? We can't add that too? I can try to do an hand

this    "Upcoming Events"  at the corner  deforms the posted images , the threads become ugly

Ok I have removed it since there were some complaints, let's see if we can find a better place in the future.

It's not possible to have it there just for the front page and then when going into the threads, it disappear?

On 26th Decembe some new discussion threads have been opened in summer sports subforums I follow but I didn't get notifications (including the one that I opened though I don't remember doing it).

That's because they have been "artifically" opened, copying other threads from the admin control panel.
