As for text color and image alignment it's just a matter of habits, Im using the new theme since some weeks and reverting to the previous one it looks as weird as it's for you now the new theme

 

But is there any (post-90s) website which uses pitch-black text?

 

Facebook, Twitter, Google, they all avoid mixing pure black and white, and for a good cause. Books too.

Text colour has been fixed. Templates for TAISC should also be ok now.
