It went horribly wrong today at the opening ceremony, with a crush resulting in at least 12 deaths and 11 critically injured victims. Oddly enough, the president made a short statement after the situation, basically saying "something unfortunate happened, lots of injuries, let's be quiet for a few seconds", and then the ceremony continued with lasers and fireworks and stuff. I guess for those who didn't die while trying to get in a little before that..

WTF? How horrible. I can’t believe they would continue with festivities, let alone the Games.

It's the opposite for me: I would believe not cancelling the entire Games, but come on, immediately continueing the opening ceremony with fireworks and everything?

 

On the other hand, if thousands of people were already in the stadium, cancelling the whole thing might have just caused more trouble with everyone leaving in a panic...

Germany has “upped-the-ante” for this year’s edition of the Invictus Games. They’ve contracted ISB (International Sports Broadcasting) as the host broadcaster, and Atos as the results provider. The Netherlands edition was pretty invisible internationally, so it will be interesting to see if this edition gets a little more attention. The LOC will also be livestreaming competitions on YouTube. 

 

 will make their debut as well.
