Canada with a HUGE 3-0 win over the Dominican Republic today in Women’s VNL!!! :hyper::yikes::thumbup::yes:cheer:

1-1 record now, and only 14 (!) points behind the Netherlands for the final Olympic quota, with the 13.1 that we gained today!!

Another HUGE victory during match 3 of Women’s VNL, defeating China 3-1 :hyper::yes:banana:

We gain 11 points towards our World Ranking with that win, and close down the gap to Netherlands to only 5 points!!!

Does Netherlands gain points for wins as well?

Of course they do, but they also lose points for losses. They beat Bulgaria 3-0 (4 points), and lost 1-3 to Turkey (-2.5 points), compared to Canada losing to Brazil 1-3 (-3 points), sweeping Dominican Republic (13 points), and defeating China 3-1 (11 points).

The :NED is up 1.38 point so far for the week-end (after two matched), compared to Canada being up 21.26 points (after three matches).

Currently :NED has 289.31 points and :CAN has 286.92 points.

Winning against lower ranked teams or losing agaisnt higher ranked team doesn't affect the ranking much, but beating two higher ranked teams (like Canada just did) is huge.

If :POL beats :NED and :CAN beats :THA then I think Canada will overtake the Netherlands for now.

    • As a Montreal Canadien fan, I am in agreement. However, he is struggling recently and is demoted to the 4th line this week. Hoping he can turn it around.
    • I read now that Valentina Rodini will be in the new team of Tizzano + Galtarossa and Martini. I was probably in such an information bubble on Instagram that I thought that only Abbagnale was running a campaign and had a team of people around him. That's why I was surprised by his defeat + the fact that, for example, Rodini supports his rival. But as I wrote, for me the change in the general coach position is a plus. We need a new opening and a new impulse: Cattaneo had his best results in Tokyo and then he only explained that his rowers were running away abroad to the USA to study and that's why he had worse results. Ok, except that it's the same in Romania and Greece but they results are comparable or better. It's obvious that no one here will make the UK or the Netherlands, because we don't have such resources and money but I think we can repeat the Romanian results (2 gold - 3 silver in Paris) and that will be a much better result than the 2 silver in this year.
