I think the IBU was under serious pressure to send a message to Russia.  I think it will be at least 4 years when all is said and done before they get another race.  I think Tyumen was the last one, but it was changed to Finland a few years ago.

Which is not that different, Kontiolahti is basically Russia's home competition when there's none that's officially in Russia :p

Dutch former World Cup athlete and current Eurosport commentator was asked about his experiences in extreme cold. "Once we had some sort of a youth European championships in Novosibirsk, but it was way too cold to race. The Russians wanted action though and so the jury picked up the thermometer and kept it in the sun until it was showing a high enough temperature to race."

:p

Canada's Brendan Green and Rosanna Crawford, who are engaged, both retired after the Canmore races.

Also, The President of Belarus has said that because of the poor performances by the teams he wants Domracheva and Scardino to come back and race again.

"We'll buy a thousand pairs, and choose the best. The main thing that they were running. And rifles will give them, machine guns and a rocket launcher... whatever. Only that they were engaged and running, and not disgrace the country as our athletes perform at this year. It's a shame. Such a shame more was not"

Biathlon competitor Ekaterina Avvakumova (29), originally from Russia, could not adapt to life in Korea and is reportedly looking for another national team to join.

Looks like life post Olympic games has not worked out so well.

If anyone wondered why the start times are what they are are, this article explains it pretty well.

"The German TV dictates the time of our races so that it hits prime time in the evening"

Well, that'd be a reason to complain if start times (local) were strange or something, but they're perfectly normal :p
