Biathlon 2022 - 2023 Discussion Thread

The boss of the Brazilian snow sports federation is apparently running for a position in the IBU Executive Board. Wouldn't have guessed that :d

Which is odd, since they really don't do anything with biathlon in the first place.

That is odd.  Their election could be a step towards a more robust summer biathlon presence.

Not surprised to see Max Cobb from the US there for a position.  It is good to see Sara Studabaker-Hall.  She has done lots of good work with the US federation.

Many French men rode the L'Etape de Tour, the one day ride that allows non professional cyclists to ride one of the stages of the Tour de France.  Fabien Claude, Antonin Guigonnat, Vincent Vittoz and Emilien Jacquelin all participated, but the fastest French biathlete was ... Vincent Vittoz, their coach!

Blink Festival has announced their schedule.  The full one can be found here - the biathlon schedule looks like this:

18h55 : Super Sprint

6 August

15h45 : 1/4 Final Mass Start

Interesting interview with Anamarija Lampic on her transition from nordic to biathlon.

Which wouldn't happen though. Biathlon is used mostly for the money and equipment one gets for starting in IBU races, which is then used for some athletes in the cross-country program.

Former multiple Junior World Champion Igor Malinovshy is feared dead in a helicopter crash.

Tragic news...

Although, what a weird way of writing:

Quote

He could tear his opponents apart at the World Cup, but he preferred piloting helicopters to biathlon, for which he had a special passion. Unfortunately, this is, to put it mildly, unsafe.

I am sure this article was translated through an automatic translation website, but I agree.  It is oddly worded.

I hope that with Gismondi will be different, especially since she was already a great talent in her junior years. The problem in Italy is that for the past 15 years, aside from Pellegrino, there has been a miss of stability in other athletes: there are some booms of excellent form, but later they disappear. I also worry that funding for cross-country skiing will be cut after the Cortina Olympics.
