After 3/6 events, :NZL leads the pack while :USA:CAN:AUS are in comfortable positions to qualify to the Olympics. It's not completely over for the European nations, but it would take a couple of great tournaments for one of them while one of the top four has back to back terrible tournaments. As it stands two out of :FRA:IRL:RUS:GBR:ESP will miss the Olympics, though even if one of them makes it to the top 4 it would only help the continent if they leap-frog Australia.

:BRA Brazil has won the Hong Kong Women’s 7s tournament, which means they are qualified as one of the 11 core teams for the 2019/2020 Women’s Rugby 7s world series.

How come Hong Kong isn't listed here?

After finishing 11th (!) last year, :CAN has won the Japan 7s for their first title since the 2016-17 season! It was a very close 7-5 match with :ENG England, with Canada scoring their try more than two minutes into added time. The :USA USA finished 3rd and :FRA France fourth. :NZL New Zealand was prevented from setting a record winning streak by a draw with :RUS Russia and their record unbeaten streak was ended by :FRA France in the group stage and the :USA USA in the quarterfinals.

In the last tournament of the year (the France women’s 7s) :CAN Canada will qualify if they finish at least tenth, if Australia fails to finish in the top 8 or if France fails to win the tournament.

:AUS Australia will qualify as long as they finish in the top 6 or as long as France doesn’t finish in the top 3.

:FRA France basically needs to win the last tournament and hope for some help.

No other team can qualify through the World Series.

Yeah, it should be a formality for Canada and Australia to pick up the final quotas, though in the very unlikely event Australia fails to advance to the cup quarters, I'd watch any match between France and a European team for potential match fixing...

The European qualifying tournament will be very important as it pretty much decides which two nations will grab the final two qualification spots, even if Brazil, China, Fiji or South Africa (should they compete) fail to win their continental qualifier the European teams will be a massive favourite.
