Rio Olympic Arena

Sports: Artistic Gymnastics, Rhytmic Gymnastics, Trampoline

Zone: BARRA

Location: Barra Olympic Park

Rio Olympic Arena is located in the Barra Olympic Park. Built for the 2007 Pan-American Games, Rio Olympic Arena was designed for Olympic gymnastics and will host all three disciplines in 2016: artistic, rhythmic and trampoline.

 

It is Rio’s largest indoor arena and is used extensively for major sports events, concerts and cultural activities.

 

The Venue has a capacity of 14,981 for sports and 8,830–18,768 for concerts.

Riocentro Pavilions 2, 3, 4, 6

Zone: BARRA

Location: Riocentro

The city’s main exhibition and convention centre, Riocentro is next to the Olympic and Paralympic Village and within five minutes of Barra Olympic Park. 

 

Four Pavilions of the Riocentro were selected to host 4 different sports during the Rio de Janeiro 2016. Pavilion 2 will stage weightlifting, Pavilion 3 Table Tennis, Pavilion 4 Badminton and new constructed Pavilion 6 has been chosen for Boxing.

 

The Largest Exhibition Center in Latin America was build in 1977, Capacity of the pavilions ranges from 2,000 people to 4,500 people.

During the FIFA 2014 World Cup the Riocentro was utilised as headquarters of the IBC (International Broadcast Centre)

Great area. Only one questione, i don't find this info, how many Badminton's court have the Pavillon 4?

Don´t know, I am not a badminton expert at all, but usually there 3 courts, no? shouldnt be also 3 at Rio?

According to the Tickets Guide are 3 courts.

Olympic Aquatics Stadium

Sports: Swimming, Water Polo

Zone: BARRA

Location: Barra Olympic Park

The Olympic Aquatics Stadium will be in the heart of Barra Olympic Park, 10 minutes from the Olympic and Paralympic Village. It will host swimming in the first week and the complete Knock-Out Phase of both water polo tournaments during the second week of the Olympic Games.

 

The Constructions works on the venue began in 2013 with expected capacity of 18,000 temporary seats within a permanent structure.

 

After the Games the venue will be utilised as a part of the Olympic Training Centre.

    • I think the reason is that it's generally preferable to have a fast shooter in the 1st leg, and especially in the prone shooting, where Hofer is quite slow.   Now, I'm not saying I agree with the choice, because I don't. I think it's going to neutralize Giacomel's skiing skills in the 1st lap at least.   I guess the idea is to try and set a very fast pace in the 1st leg, which is usually quite tactical, but I'm afraid that's going to force Giacomel to risk too much because he will feel he has to make some time somehow.   Regardless, Italy must be on the podium tomorrow. I think that would be crucial for the following races as well. I think France is the clear favorite, but the other teams are not stronger than Italy on paper.
