Tomorrow I plan to make the last poll before the start of the Beijing games. Need some advice :-)))

I know I promised polls about men's and women's mass start races in biathlon, but I think these polls will be more interesting when we do them after all the other biathlon events are done and dusted.

@rafalgorka How about a poll about the performance of African NOCs at Beijing 2022?

I don't know if we have any users from 5 participating African nations:

:ERI :GHA :MAD :MAR :NGR

Something regarding the opening ceremony popped up in my head, but this would be better suited for the mixed zone, not Beijing 2022, because it's more of a general question:

"Who would lit the cauldron if your country would host the Summer/Winter Games?"

There are a very small number of countries that will ever host the Games, so it would be interesting to see what the users from less wealthy countries think, who are their most respected athletes who would lit the cauldron.

@Vektor a very nice idea.

btw, do we have any leaks who will lit the cauldron in Beijing?

@Vic Liu any speculations?

No rumors at all, the whole ceremony thing is very low key under covid atmosphere. My personal guess, first Chinese WOG gold medalist Yang Yang (Short Track 2002) or first Chinese WOG medalist Ye Qiaobo (Speed Skating 1992).

Any chance for Lu Chen?

Ye has a... colorful past so I'll be surprised if they went with her.

She is the pioneer of Chinese figure skating. She may pass the torch inside the stadium but not the level to lit the cauldron. When it comes to figure skating, it occurs to me that there actually is one big rumor. Wiki Chinese page already "announce" the persons to lit the cauldron. They are Yang Yang, An Xiangyi (junior figure skater) and another 4 ordinary students. @rafalgorka

    • MId-1962.  Almost all the Jews were driven out in a few days, even though they had been living there since Classical, pre-Muslim times.   Perhaps our friend could give us details of of any current Algerian plans to welcome them back, restore their property, guarantee their safety etc etc?
    • In what year did Algeria free itself from French influence? 1960, exactly?
    • Or better, perhaps he'd like to tell us what happened to the 140,000 Jews who were living in Algeria in 1960, as against the 200 who live there now?
    • There are still many people of Jewish origin in Central and Eastern Europe who have nothing to do with the state of Israel. What ties does Zelensky have to the state of Israel? Apart from he waś there as president of Ukraine and speaking in the Knesset? Nothing. In the power circles in Moscow there were/are many people of Jewish origin and what about that? A large part of the power apparatus of the USSR was based on Jews, especially in the years shortly after WWII.   Instead of constantly writing about Jews, would be better to tell me which country Algeria has better diplomatic relations with: Tunisia or Egypt?
    • Handy guide for the perplexed.
    • I`m a bit disappointed with the starts of the Italian team. I was counting on progress from last year. And here it looks like Bagnis is still very uneven. In Cortina there will be 3 competitions with medals to win and it would be a shame not to use our track to win 1-2 medals. The same goes for luge.
    • On the other hand Errani's serve doesn't make Paolini's task any easier... But Paolini is in a such good shape here, though, that I hope she wins her first title in the old Fed Cup. For Errani, it will be 4: 2009, 2010, 2013. So far, Roberta Vinci has 4 titles with Italy.
    • Skeleton WC Pyeongchang, South Korea    Women Gold-  Freya Tarbit (1:44.68) Silver-  Hannah Neise (1:45.64) Bronze-  Janine Flock (1:45.70)   Full Results   Men Gold-  Christopher Grotheer (1:42.81) Silver-  Marcus Wyatt (1:42.87) Bronze-  Matt Weston (1:43.31)   Full Results
    • Poor Iga, she was essentially playing alone with all of the mistakes that Kawa was making.
    • This time losing in the final will be a big disappointment for me... Especially since Poland and the Czech Republic are out. Everything depends on Paolini, who can/must win the singles and doubles in the final. The big problem is with Errani's tragic serve... If she served at Paolini's level Italy's chances would be much greater.
