@phelps

I played around with this last night before bed after seeing @Topicmaster1010's post and these are some differences I've found from @phelps' post.

Boys

50FR - #3 Isaac Cooper 22.25 AUS Nationals (born 2004 so still a junior)

400FR - #3 Stephan Steverink 3:48.27 Jr Worlds (born 2004 so still a junior)

1500FR - #1 Carlos Garach 15:00.90 ESP Nationals

100BR - #3 Yamato Okadome 1:00.70 Jr Pan Pacs (prelims)

400IM - #3 Stephan Steverink 4:16.44 BRA Nationals

Girls

50FR - #2 Hannah Casey 24.96 AUS Age Champs, #3 Olivia Wunsch 25.09 AUS Age Champs

100FR - #2 Hannah Casey 54.30 AUS Age Champs

800FR - Grimes is #1 with 8:21.26 if you count the first 800 of her 1500

100BK - #3 Jaclyn Barclay 1:00.16 AUS Age Champs

200BK - #2 Dora Molnar 2:09.34 HUN Nationals

If incuding RUS athletes Daria Klepikova would be #3 in the 50FR with 25.05 and #3 in the 100FL with 57.97.

as I wrote, I knew my list could have been not completely accurate ;) as I didn't have many results from the national champs (and frankly I couldn't go and search for it one by one)...

p.s. I'm pretty sure that checking the Japanese/Chinese Junior Nationals quite a few more fast times could be included in our lists, but I don't know where to find all those results...

p.p.s. for what concerns Grimes and her 800m Free clocking, I'm not sure a mid-distance split can be counted as official (it's swimming, not athletics)...:mumble:

I know it's basically impossible to do it 100% accurately but I was just giving some updates for swims I noticed.

Splits are definitely official and Grimes' swim is even listed in the FINA rankings. You can even break a WR in a split (the men's 800 WR has been broken quite a few times during a 1500).

All of the swims I listed are listed either in the FINA rankings or in the Nuoto Mondiale rankings.

thanks, I didn't know (actually, I've never taken the question into consideration) that splits are considered official times also in Swimming...

FINA has removed the 25km open water events from next WCh citing low number of participants in relation to the costs...bah.

Not sure why they would bring cost as a reason. The 5km and 10km courses are there, it's just more laps (yes sometimes they use a slightly longer course, but if the cost of some extra buoys and officials is really too much, just use the same course). It would be like cutting the 10,000m in athletics and citing costs as a reason.

Personally I feel participation is at an okay level, definitely not enough to be considered for the Olympics, but enough for World Championships. Especially since it's at the same level of some diving and artistic swimming events.

the 25kms has more competitive athletes and Nations than all that fuckin' sh*t they just put on the Olympic program...

it's a wonderful event (like the race walking 50kms)...

it's just this tendency to kill all the competitions that take more than 2 minutes...it's insane (as if those youth and urban sh*t could really bring new audience to the Games/Championships)... :wall: :hairpull::stop:

Ah, great! Now my teenage cousins who don't care for open water swimming are absolutely going to suddenly love the 10km (which they never watch), now that there is no 25km anymore (which they never watched neither) :)!

SportSG suspends support to Joseph Schooling, Amanda Lim, Teong Tzen Wei for a month after drug-related offences

Sport Singapore on Wednesday (Sep 28) said that it will suspend all support for national swimmers Joseph Schooling, Amanda Lim and Teong Tzen Wei for a month after they confessed to consuming controlled drugs overseas.

For a month beginning from Oct 1, the three carded athletes under the high performance scheme will not receive training assistance grants or have access to sports science and sports medicine facilities and services, SportSG said in a statement after it concluded an internal review.

We are skipping the 25m World Champs. Only two Hungarian swimmers will compete in Melbourne, Zsuzsanna Jakabos and Szebasztián Szabó, because they are "short course specialists". The rest are staying home, the calendar is too stacked with events.

    • Just rewatched that last minute, because apparently there were a controversy according to medias, but it took almost 15 minutes.  oh dear, this sport is just something else.
    • Apparently was leading 0.4 seconds to go by 3 points but still managed to lose the match     Anyway it looks there some progress from the loses to Albania and co from couple of years ago... maybe thhere a chance for a win in a international match in the next decade. As San Marino proved last week in football, only sky is the limit

    • Hope so (for my adopted country, Norway, that is). Torino 2006 was the first Winter Olympics I followed closely and it was nothing short of a disaster for Norway. Strangely enough, that was actually the reason I became an avid fan of Norwegian winter sports and have been ever since. As for my actual home country, Greece, a medal for Ginnis in slalom (alpine skiing) would be a miracle.
