The Tour de Slovaquie/Okolo Slovenska 2022 starting today with the 7km prologue from Petržalka (that "legendary" Bratislava district) to Bratislava.

 

The race will then resume with another 4 stages in the upcoming days with the last stage ending in Košice this Saturday

 

Fun fact: Interesting that even if this year the race will not go to the Tatras, still, As one can expect from a 80 % mountaineous country, it is gonna be a quite challenging edition, especially Thursday´s 15th September (which is in fact a National holiday in Slovakia) have some tasty climbing

Time of the year when the kids get their chance to play with the big boys &  Archie Ryan took his with a win in Slovensko up a Belgian-style climb - ie a cobbled hill with a church on top of it.

Apparently the peloton and team managers were watching the TV producers' pictures in Slovakia today, and so - just like the TV cameras and especially the helicopter - they completely missed the duo of the tiny VolkerWessels team being ahead of them for 15km and scoring a highly improbable 1-2

Not quite sure if this new sport deserves a new thread or indeed a whole forum...

 

Anyway, this weekend sees the inaugural UCI Gravel World Championships from Italy.  Quite a lot of the dual road/mountain-bike big names involved, including the Notorious vdP, Sagan, Stybar, Fernand-Prevot, but there's also a lot of discipline specialists from the Americas where Gravel Racing has a commercial circuit of its own.

I'm not really that much into the gravel scene, but I did hear UCI really wants to make these championships there own thing, and a ton of the big names from the big American circuit aren't there. Plus it's at the same time as one of the biggest races there, apparently.

 

So, whoever wins it, don't take it too seriously
