3rd seed :THA Luksika Kumkhum lost to unseeded :HKG Eudice Chong in women's singles. This gives the Chinese top two seeds a larger chance at winning the Olympic quota.

Two unseeded athletes reached the quarterfinals in the women's singles :HKG Eudice Chong and :INA Aldila Sutjiadi, With the fourth and fifth seeds gone too one of the Chinese duo is very likely to win the Olympic quota.

I had hope that Kumkhum will qualify, but since she lost I cheer Sutjiadi.

 

Anyone know if Zhang or Wang will be winner here and later will qualify via ranking then their spot will go for next player in the WTA ranking or finalist from these Games?

Sutjiadi would need to reach the top 300 to qualify though.

 

The next player in the WTA ranking will qualify if Zhang or Wang win.

      There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

      I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
