Group games should not be possible to be repeated until the final. It's done so to make almost impossible for one of the two hosts to have to play in the other country. The situation you mention happened in (men's WC) Korea-Japan 2002 when Brazil and Turkey played a semifinal after meeting each other in group stage. Curiously that time Korea could have played in Japan had they advanced to the final. Right, it does make a bit of sense then, thanks Another reason to be in favour of one-nation events, I suppose Josh 1 . AsensioWillemsen 158 Posted August 11, 2023 #347 Share Posted August 11, 2023 I think Spain will have an easier time against Sweden. This is great. Ask USA and Japan I agree that it won't be any case of walk-over, but I don't think the danger on the counter is as large. However, the danger with corners is substantial, if you will play good enough to get any of them. It also helps on the mental side to not play a team you just lost 4-0 to. Or to not play against a team that you lost 0-4 to make you think it will be easier? That is probably the worst thing to think before a game.
