It's nearly impossible to make an accurate prediction of the weather in January and February this early :p

I mean I think everyone is pretty sure it will never happen again

That's just not very realistic. Same thing as saying nobody will ever run 100m under 9.50 seconds or a marathon under two hours or the 800m under 1:40. Yes, someone will, one day. And yes, the Elfstedentocht will one day be held again too, 'forever' is a very long time for something to not happen. It's not very realistic to think there won't be one single harsh winter in the next 100 years or so.

Twin brothers Ronald and Michel Mulder finish tied for 4th with 35.22 :d

Just like in 2006 when they made their debut with the exact same time

At the first start he moved so they had to start over, then at the start he reacted really slowly and easily lost two tenths of a second there, which made him finish in 6th. Senegal cheered

Holy crap :hyper:

In not even really good conditions, Patrick Roest just won the 5km in 6:08.98, a new track record in Heerenveen and annihilating Sven Kramer in a man-to-man fight  :bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

Just for context, these were the 25 fastest ever times in Heerenveen:

On the all-time list he is now tied 13th with Carl Verheijen.

Top-5 qualifies, meaning Stollenga very surprisingly has qualified for the World Cup. That's really cool: she had so much troubles with her back, which even has been broken...then she came back, got injured again but never gave up and now it's rewarded :)

46-year old Claudia Pechstein won the German 3k title in a rather decent 4:08

    • Regarding the swimming they have added the 800m for men and the 1500m for women so cutting numbers would be odd.
    • That quota I’ve been told by an athlete aiming to qualify who I know online.
    • Has the quota for Canada been offically confirmed anyway, or is that just a rumour? I can't find anything on google about it (nor the suggested quota for England's athletes someone posted earlier).   12 per gender would make sense (it's roughly what Canada sent to Birmingham). 12 overall seems dumb.

    • In the past few games, Canada (and other nations) was given an overall athlete quota which they then divided it through the various sports.
    • Whose decision was this, Team Canada's or the Organising committes?
