China & Italy (+4), Slovenia (+5) and Austria & Russia (+6) are the biggest winners so far.

After the same events in 2018 Germany had 4 golds and 11 medals in total, so 3 medals less and 1 gold more. Interestingly Germany again:

- Won silver in women’s ski jumping

- Gold in luge doubles (and 2 medals in total)

- Gold and silver in women’s luge individual

- A medal in biathlon women’s individual

- Gold in men’s Nordic combined normal hill

- A medal in men’s luge individual

-> So far Germany didn’t win any medals in any „new“ events, but they lost gold in men’s ski jumping normal hill individual and two medals in women’s snowboard PGS

 

I guess this shows that there is almost no development in most sports. Hopefully there will be at least some new medals (men’s snowboardcross, men’s skeleton, alpine skiing).

These are the 2018 medals if we follow the 2022 schedule. I have put the 2022 medals in brackets for comparison. There have been 4 new events so far, so the 2022 table has that many additional medals compared to 2018.

So Norway lost a LOT of medals compared to 2018 so far, but they somewhat saved themselves by winning one of the new events. Canada and United States are also doing quite terribly. Germany is the only top nation of 2018 that won more gold medals compared to the previous Games (+1 gold in Luge, +1 gold in Biathlon, -1 gold in Ski Jumping, so overall it's +1). China benefitted the most from the new events, they have won 2 out of the 4.

With the likes of Simen Krueger, Heidi Weng and Jarl Magnus Riiber not having participated in any event thus far for whatever reasons, it is perfectly normal for Norway to have won fewer medals (not to mention some weird, questionable decisions by officials in ski jumping for example...)

Don’t agree:

1) Don’t you think that Weng and Krüger would have participated if they would have thought that they were good enough to win a medal? Also I don’t think either of them could have won a medal in sprint and I also don’t think that Krüger could have won a medal in skiathlon. MAYBE Weng could have won a medal in skiathlon. 
2) Norway still won a medal in Nordic combined without Riiber. I don’t think it anyone EXPECTED two medals in this event for them. 
3) They lost 4 medals in cross-country skiing alone compared to 2018. 

4) Pretty crazy that they are so far „behind schedule“ despite winning a medal in every biathlon event so far.

5) I am not sure if Norway would have won a medal in mixed ski jumping if no team would have been disqualified.

6) I don’t really see them making up the lost ground in alpine skiing or cross-country skiing, but they could make it up in biathlon. In 2018 they only won 4 medals in the remaining 9 races and I could definitely see them winning one medal per race this time.

Well, let's not forget that S H Krueger was the previous gold medalist in the skiathlon (in Pyeongchang) and has been in top form this year. Also, high altitude and difficult courses suit him perfectly. He would probably have won a medal and so would Heidi in the women's version (given that the Swedish co-favorites had a bad day). What's more, Norway could have won 2 medals in Nordic combined today. Riiber was one of the biggest (gold) medal pre-favorites across all sports according to all reliable websites and for good reason. Lastly, the official goal for this Norwegian Olympic team is to win around 30 medals. Not 40 or 45 as many people predict(ed) on forums and so on.

Which I don't think they will win btw. I would go for something like 22 or 23 medals overall.
