Guba over performing? You think Polish shot putters aren't allowed to post scores over 19m?

Over performing in the sense that she shouldnt have won gold here, but i want to try to be fair: Schwanitz and Storl only have themselves to blame, both underperformed, the polish athletes just were better prepared, although Haratyk also wasnt at his best. I still am sad that Bukowecki won a medal, i dont consider any of his performances to be legal. Congrats to Guba, she showed massive mental strength today. It just would be nice if polish athletes would leave some gold medals for Germany, its getting frustrating to see german athletes (Schwanitz, Ringer, Harting) fail miserably.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Robert Harting farewell ?

He will compete at ISTAF in a couple of months. His little brother will take over with the self proclaimed goal of winning gold at the next 3 olympics.

Guba is at the peak of her performances right now and she will probably only get better. Schwanitz was nowhere near her best but that's not our problem.  German athletics generally is on the way down but I have no idea why that happens.

I know, polish behavior concerning Germany is very irritating still, german people on the other hand dont have any special relation to Poland. The only cliche most german people have towards polish people is that they are constantly stealing. I think the problem is that Poland still hasnt really learnt how to accept its role during world war 2, denying most/all responsibility for what happened back then.

Ribbentrop-Molotov pact took care of all the responsibility. Besides, Stalin would have started WWII himself ca. 1941-42 to take revenge for the 1920 failure anyway.

    • The last time this happened - all three athletes on the podium had zero podiums before - was Les Saisies sprint in December 1990: Uschi Disl, Elena Melnikova (future Sergei Tchepikov's wife) & Kerstin Moring. The latter two never finished on the World Cup podium again. This was also the race where Disl became the second youngest World Cup winner ever (currently down to third because of Neuner).
    • In general almost all Fisi sports have been doing terribly this season. One debacle after another and the Colturi case completes the scale of embarrassment. Apart from single star like Goggia, Brignone or Pellegrino, only the alpine snowboard looks good.
    • Unfortunately the Italian men's team is poorly prepared for the season. Everyone is in terrible shooting form. Somewhere a mistake was made in the preparations. We are recording a big regression compared to the previous season. It`s becoming more and more likely that we will not stand on the podium even once this season (I can't remember the last time something like that happened). In the Nations Cup we are in 6th place and we may lose 6 starting places in the World Cup from next season. I`m increasingly worried about what will happen in the Olympic season. Without Vittozzi returning to top form, we completly will not count.    In general our entire winter season looks very bad: biathlon as above, cross-country skiing - still only Pellegrino, luge - poor form, alpine skiing without Goggia and Brignone doesn`t exist.

    • A few updates from the IFA after last month's Board of Directors meeting.   Looks like there will be no host quota for  China at the 2025 World Games. This is surprising after the IFA went to Chengdu last year to put on a clinic. No doubt that given a year  China has the resources and athletes to field a team that would be competitive in the placement matches.    Namibia will replace  China on the women's side. While  will replace  on the men's side.     Namibia finished 8th at the last Women's World Championships, while  New Zealand finished 11th at the 2023 Men's World Championship.

    • My first girlfriend was Brazilian, and I already had an interest in winter sports...then I kind of started paying attention to Brazilian winter athletes and long story short, a few years after the relationship ended I started dating a Brazilian winter athlete and here we are, more than 7 years later, living in our home and figuring everything out towards the Olympics
