Women's Curling Tournament at the Winter Olympic Games Beijing 2022

Not fun to play Round robin dominant Switzerland for bronze:cry: But still well deserved by Muirhead and also happy for Fujisawa!

Just now, Swewi said:

Not often you lose when you score 11 in curling:lol:

Or after scoring 4 in the first end (and 3 in the 10th end).

Pretty big upsets in both semis. :SWE and :SUI are going to be pretty annoyed to be meeting each other in the bronze medal game.

In a sense I agree with you but I wonder if GB really were the underdogs against Sweden. Last November the same Scotland/GB team beat the same Swedish team 8-5 in the round-Robins and 7-4 in the final of the European Championships. They then followed that up with an 8-2 win in the round-Robin in Beijing so the form line actually favoured GB.

Thankfully GBR got 2 medals so they will participate in Milano-Cortina after all. After reading the forum, I was extremely worried that they wouldn't find the money to send a few athletes for the first time in history.

That was what I thought as well.  Sweden has been on top of :SCO/:GBR for so long that they have been really rattled by three (now four!) consecutive tournament defeats this season.

Checked through the records and the GB/Sweden aggregate score of 23 appears to be a record since the sport returned to the OG in 1998. The best previously appears to have been a couple of 21 point matches.

However, at the sports only previous appearance in 1924 - only France, GB and Sweden competed - the matches were played over 18 ends rather than the current 10 and produced aggregate scores of 28, 45 and 50.

Call it stereotyping or whatever, but I love watching the Japanese team... Watching the SF replay and I can't stop thinking "ah kawaii"

    • The Italian team has already achieved a better result than the Chinese team in 2022 at home. The Italian team has made enormous progress since 2023, when we were still losing to Korea and Poland. Of course, this is mainly due to naturalizations, but China did the same. It's one of the few sports that have made significant progress before these Olympics and this is how it should be in most disciplines at home games.
    • change with given the WBC rosters    ps you forgot (I'd put them at no.5, however)
    • will get bronze.  are going to struggle to come back from such an horrible performance today.
