some good results and moves on the OQR for both men and women last night in :CUB Havana.

the women's -81kg class was won by :NOR Solfrid Eila Amena Koanda with a rock solid 266kg Total.

she was already in qualifying position in the +87kg class after her gold medal at the world championships in Bogotà last Autumn, but now she breaks in straight into 2nd place of the -81kg class OQR.

:ECU Tamara Yajaira Salazar Arce ended up in 2nd place, improving her score up to 265kg, but still she loses 1 place in the OQR: she's now 3rd behind :CHN Liang and :NOR Koanda.

last night, :ECU Neisi Patricia Dajomes Barrera ended up in 3rd place with a good Total of 260kg, which would be a comfortable qualifying score, if only she wasn't the 2nd woman from her Country in the qualification ranking.

finally, also the 4th ranked from last night, :DOM Yudelina Mejia Peguero, breaks into a qualifying position in the OQR with a good 252kg Total.

:USA Martha Ann Rogers was 5th and improved her Total by 1kg, going up to 248, but in the end she loses 2 places in the OQR.

however, she's still in the top 10 (meanwhile :KOR and :VEN now are out of the top 10 after last night's event).

This is the stupidist of stupid questions, but can I confirm the rankings are basically simply your best lift in a sanctioned competitions within a time frame?

yes, you can.

and basically we have just a couple of events left this year (the World Champs in September and the 2nd Grand Prix in Doha in December) and 2 next year (Continental Champs and the World Cup, with the 2023 Worlds and the 2024 World Cup being mandatory events in terms of participation to become eligible for the Olympic Games).

Enjoyed this event. But from where are you getting OQR?

we sent 2 weightlifters to Cuba, 2021 World Champion Rasoul Motamedi (who is injured right now) had to participate in Cuba to keep his hopes alive for the Olympics after missing the first 2 tournaments.

we have some sort of stupid league in this sport which only results in untimely injuries

I hope Motamedi recovers in time to qualify for Paris but his situation doesn't look great. he still needs time to lift big numbers.

Yeah right that's the doubt i had @phelps The norwegian is 3rd and Ecuadorian 4th. You missed Sara Ahmed of Egypt who's now the favourite for gold next year as China is going to skip the event. With 3 nations 268 ,266,265kg it will be an exciting finals next year

you're right...I didn't take into consideration the Egyptian woman.

however, I still think she won't be the real favourite of the Olympic competition even if :CHN choose to opt out of this weight class (and I'm not so sure that will be their final decision).

Free Palestine will last a lot longer due to Saudi Arabia becoming a sponsorship force in sports.   Israel is too weak in soccer to qualify from UEFA zone. • Oh I assure you FIFA dodger a bullet with Israel not qualifying…   But ya that’s kind of the thing, shut up and dribble is a mantra anti LGBT people have used often. I don’t think it’s hypocritical to remind them of their position
    • Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default? Somehow I feel this won't be met with similar backlash when China clamped down on 'Free Tibet' in 2008 OG. Saudi Arabia is more important to global markets than Iran & Egypt
