great results tonight

however I really hope short gets whatever health issue he has sorted out before paris

so crucial for 400 and 800 medal chances

Will be a major blow if he can't get things back on track.

:AUS Australian Olympic Trials: Day 4

Women's 200m Backstroke (SAQT: 2:09.74, OQT: 2:10.39):

1. Kaylee McKeown - 2:03.30 Q

2. Jaclyn Barclay - 2:07.88

3. Hannah Fredericks - 2:08.25

Notably, 32 year old Emily Seebohm finished 5th in 2:10.80.

Men's 200m Individual Medley (SAQT: 1:57.23, OQT: 1:57.94)

1. William Petric - 1:57.54

2. Brendon Smith - 1:58.12

3. Se-Bom Lee - 2:00.11

Despite missing the Swimming Australia qualifying time, Petric's time still dips under the AQUA OQT and there's a good chance he'll still be selected for the Olympic Team. Given his PB setting form here, it seems likely he'll qualify in the 400m IM anyways. Thomas Neill scratched out of this event but he has the OQT already and since he's already on the team, he could also swim this event.

Men's 100m Freestyle (SAQT: 48.06, OQT: 48.34)

1. Kyle Chalmers - 47.75 :mumble:

2. William Yang - 48.08 q

3. Flynn Southam - 48.11 q

4. Jack Cartwright - 48.40 q

5. Kai Taylor - 48.57

6. Zac Incerti - 48.73

7. Jamie Jack - 49.01

8. Maximillian Giuliani - 49.17

Very interesting to see Chalmers fade in the last 25 metres of the race. William Yang should still get to swim the individual 100 free as his time dips under the World Aquatics standard.

Women's 200m Butterfly (SAQT: 2:07.72, OQT: 2:08.43)

1. Elizabeth Dekkers - 2:06.01 Q

2. Abbey Connor - 2:06.82 Q

3. Bella Grant - 2:08.86

Notably, Brianna Throssell scratched this event.

Women's 800m Freestyle (SAQT: 8:22.20, OQT: 8:26.71)

1. Ariarne Titmus - 8:14.06 Q

2. Lani Pallister - 8:18.46 Q

3. Jamie Perkins - 8:30.18

Lots of negativity on SwimSwam about the performances of the men compared to the woman, and yes whilst it isn’t great, I’d still say McEvoy is a massive chance whilst short and winnington should strongly challenge the German.

i also expect Kyle to bounce back as he is a big time performer.
also yet to see zsc in 200
it’s not all bad as people are making it to be

given these times, men's 4*100m free relay is not so scary...actually, I think it will be difficult for them to be a medal contender, unless some big steps forwards by all team members are made

China’s presence will overshadow these games entirely. UK and USA swimmers will protest on every Interview  and on the podium. The IOC better be ready for every single view at home knowing China are industrial drug cheats and they have done nothing to ban then.

I hope they do and then they get DSQ :d

Supporting drug cheats should get you banned from this forum.

But as you point out in your first sentence, it's the comparison between the men and the women that's the killer.

The men are a perfectly good team with lots of medal chances. But the women are on the next level above that.

    • Lots of injuries, including often just pure bad-luck stuff like a fall from a set of stairs, illness, and of course the Sochi tragedy in 2014: one of her biathlon friends, young Julia Pieper, killed herself with a biathlon rifle early during the Olympics (she wasn't on the team, but was a training partner of both Preuss and Dahlmeier). Obviously a hard hit, which led to terrible Olympics for Preuss, with a DNF, awful results in her other individual races and a relay where she was the first runner for Germany, but fell early on, got snow in her rifle and broke a pole and ended up losing almost 3 minutes, which in turn resulted in Germany being off the podium for the first time ever.   After that came all the injuries and illness and everything. So glad to finally see her have her big individual global gold, that is so well deserved.

    • first win for the Italian men's relay since 2007      very good Home stage for us   if only the organizers didn't set the finals sessions at 2 p.m. (especially on Saturday), there would have been a lot more spectators on the seats
