No continental restrictions here? There can be 5 European or 5 American teams in one tournament ???

There haven't been any continental restrictions in the past. Unlike the women, there is already representation in each continent.

Also in 2020 teams were seeded by world ranking, including the hosts. The only restriction is hosts couldn't be in the same group for obvious reasons.

https://www.fiba.basketball/news/draw-principles-announced-for-fiba-olympic-qualifying-tournaments-2024-draw

So, for top teams, you would obviously want to avoid Bahamas from 6th and Croatia from 5th pot and you would be pleased if you get Poland from the 2nd.

Good thing they didn't put Puerto Rico in the first pot. It would be unfair advantage and put Slovenia in 2nd pot

Looks like there are some restrictions:

  • There can be a maximum of two European teams in each group and not more than three European teams in each tournament.
  • There can be a maximum of one Americas team per group.
  • There can be a maximum of one team from Asia and Oceania in each tournament.
  • There can be a maximum of one team from Africa into each tournament.

Some fun quirks due to the restrictions.

  • :BRA:PUR:DOM:BAH can not be in the same tournament meaning Mexico will be the Pan American nation which doubles up.
  • :MEX:GEO:CRO:BAH can not be in the same tournament due to keeping Asian & African teams separate.

Official pot's

Edit: Each FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2024 will host two groups of 3 teams. Pots 1,4 and 5 will feed the Group As; while pots 2,3 and 6 will feed the Group Bs. The four hosts will be allocated to the tournaments taking place in their country.

Considering all restrictions the best scenario for :POL team would be have in group :MNE and :CMR, with :PHI:MEX and :LAT in another group.

I dont underestimate them, I just believe that can or Puerto Rico can be beatable for our guys team (from host nation teams) for sure more than Spain and Greece, against which we cant play because we are in the same pot.

    • Many things, probably they thought it is already over and the win will come itself... but also Nitra improved their play a lot, they outplayed us in physicality in the last 2 games, they won almost every duel. Was hard to watch. Anyway I am still persuated we will finish the job at home with success on Tuesday
    • If you look at their results this season and on the Super Series, it’s not really that surprising.    I’d consider them to be medal contenders.
    • At one point it seemed we were making good progress in this sport, but in the past 1-2 years things seem to have hit a standstill..   Ivaylo Ivanov is still our only elite judoka, but he is passing 30. There were/are some promising youngsters, but they haven't been able to make a jump to the senior level. At this Euro we barely had any first round wins (not including Ivanov). In fencing and taekwondo the results are much more visible for us.
    • yes, but that's only an (important) episode... I mean, what's up with your team more in general...it looks like they got the classic "fear to win", they're not as brilliant as they were in the early games of the series
    • after a few leagues ended well before the true climax, now we have both leagues from the good, old Czechoslovakia going to game #7    shame that both games will be at the exact same time
    • complete blackout resulting in a 5 minutes major 3 minutes to the end
    • Extraliga Playoffs   The Finals (Best-of-7 Series)   Game #6: HC Kometa Brno (4) - HC Dynamo Pardubice (3)  1-5 (0-1, 0-1, 1-3)   the series is tied 3-3 and also in Czechia we're gonna watch the magic of a game 7...Extraliga does never disappoint its fans    Game #7 is scheduled for Tuesday, April 29th in Pardubice @ 6 p.m. CET
