Why would they need US visas?

Transit visas are issued by most countries allowing citizens of some countries to *only* fly in and out of the same airport onto a third country.

Most western countries don’t require citizens from most western countries to obtain them but Sri Lankans need them for the US (and other places they might have to transfer through)

US transit visa is required for foreign nationals except for Canada and Bermuda citizens, if the flight has a layover at US. This is required even if the person is not intending to leave the airport.

Posted (edited)

I just checked how many quotas each country qualified today had on its respective 400m or 100m.

The qualification document indicates that each team can take 5 athletes on their gender relay and 4 athletes on their mixed relay (not sure if it's a new addition, I just noticed that). And athletes with individual quota MUST participate in the M and F 4x100m and 4x400m, but it doesn't say anything regarding the mixed 4x400m .

So I'm counting it as 5 (and 2 men and 2 women on the mixed relay), but obviously they could pick someone from 200m, 800m, 400m hurdles, etc

(FINAL AS OF DAY 1, will update tomorrow)
So apparently the first day offered 131 quotas
66 female quotas (30 on 4x100m, 32 on 4x400, 4 on the mixed relay)
65 male quotas (31 on 4x100, 26 on 4x400, 8 on the mixed relay)

:USAUSA- 3 women (gets 2 female quotas)

Male 4x100m

:CANCAN- 1 man (gets 4 quotas)
:CHNCHN- no men (gets 5 quotas)
:FRAFRA- no men (gets 5 quotas)

:GBRGBR- 1 man (gets 4 quotas)
:ITAITA- no men (gets 5 quotas)
:JAMJAM- 3 men (gets 2 quotas)

:JPNJPN- 1 man (gets 4 quotas)

:ITAITA- no women (gets 5 female quotas)
:NORNOR- no women (gets 5 female quotas)

:POLPOL- 1 woman (gets 4 female quotas)

:USAUSA- 3 women (gets 2 quotas)

Male 4x400m

:BOTBOT- 3 men (gets 2 quotas)

:BELBEL- 1 man (gets 4 quotas)

:GBRGBR- 1 man (gets 4 quotas)

:GERGER- 1 man (gets 4 quotas)

:JPNJPN- 2 man (gets 3 quotas)
:ITAITA- 0 man (gets 5 quotas)

:NGRNGR- 1 man (gets 4 quotas)

:RSARSA- 3 men (gets 2 quotas)

Mixed 4x400m

:BELBEL- 1 men + 1 woman (may get 1 male + 1 female quota)* the male 4x400 qualifed above
:DOMDOM- 1 men + 1 woman (gets 1 male + 1 female quota)

Obviously they could pick someone from 200m, 800m, 400m hurdles. Athletics don't have a "relay only" option as swimming, so it's up to each NOC/NF to choose how many athletes will take to each relay (4, 5 or 6... I think, right?). I'm always counting they will take 1 reserve. So take this is just an idea...

(UPDATING AS IT GOES)

Female 4x100m

:CANCAN- 1 women (so probably will get 4 female quotas)
:FRAFRA- 1 women (so probably will get 4 female quotas)
:POLPOL- 1 women (so probably will get 4 female quotas)
:USAUSA- 3 women (so probably will get 2 female quotas)

Mixed 4x400m

:BELBEL- 1 men + 1 women (so probably will get 1 male + 1 female quota)
:DOMDOM- 1 men + 1 women (so probably will get 1 male + 1 female quota)

:FRAFRA- no athlete! (so probably will get 2 male + 2 female quota)
:IRLIRL - 1 women (so probably will get 2 male + 1 female quota)
:NEDNED - 1 men + 2 women (so probably will get 1 male quota)
:NGRNGR - 1 men (so probably will get 1 male + 2 female quota)
:POLPOL- 1 women (so probably will get 2 male + 1 female quota)
:USAUSA- 3 men + 3 women (no additional quotA)

yes you have to start with 4 quotas (and deduct if they already have any that have the minimums for 100 and 400 m)! I will choose this calculation method as well

I'm sticking to 5 because they will def take an extra. It's more probable that they have 2 reserves (as in 6) than just 4. But as you said, it's just a guess. Sometimes countries choose athletes from other races.

the big nations will go to 6, but the small ones I think they do not have enough of such a pool to select 6

But what with 100m hurdles and 200m /400m hurdles athletes. They must be deducted if they want to start in relay?

    • Yes, he is ones of the first supporters of Milei, owner of one of the most important stock market of Argentina (Bull market), he was peronist and for "unknown reasons" start to be libertarian.   Even being libertarian in my case, i have to admit that him is one of the dumbest of "Milei supporters" and a clown when  he is in TV, he made me feel  embarrassed in many occasions.   Camila Giorgi being with him is.......inconceivable.
    • Ya but the replacement is Pat Bondi, a choice that is only better in so far as Pat Bondi isn't credibly accused of having had sex with multiple underaged girls.   Also, you might recognize this name: Pete Hoekstra has been nominated to be the US ambasador to Canada.
    • Camila Giorgi has a new BF Ramiro Marra. Apparently he's some politician/journalist from Argentina. One of Milei's supporters dare I say? @LDOG@konig
    • Skeleton Tour moves on to Yanqing  this weekend.  Asian Cup races tomorrow, then the World Cup on Saturday, and then possibly more Asian Cup next weekend before everyone moves over to Altenberg for the start of the full Skeleton / Bobsleigh tour again.
    • 2-1.   But it's good to have a great champion in the squad. I've been waiting for this my whole life. I wish we had such stars in every sport.
    • But he beat Mouat, who seems to be almost unbeatable
    • Argentina has a really solid lineup, especially if they have prepared seriously for this event. Of course they don't have a champion like we do, but in this format it is enough to win 1 match to play the decisive doubles.
    • Today we must to beat Argentina. It looks like Sinner will have to win all the singles and doubles for us to defend the title. So far, the 2nd and 3rd favorites before the tournament have already been eliminated: Esp and USA.
