it was a farce in 2015 and it will be a farce in 2019...

it's only a celebration of the former Soviet Republics' power...

the real European Champions are those who win the single discipline European Champs, not this joke...

Will if Western Europe showed an interest in hosting it would be there...

Wait a minute... Wasn't gymnastics part of the European Championships thing? So we will have gymnastics events at the European Games and also European Championships?

I don't really dislike the European Games, but if we have Games + Championships, I believe acrobatics, aerobics and trampoline should be axed. Artistic and rhythmic are all we need. I like the way they only allow one gymnast per nation to qualify for the finals. This gives hope for smaller nations to earn a medal, especially in rhythmic gymnastics, which is a sport that absolutely needs to have some variety among the medalists instead of RUS, UKR, BLR, BUL and ISR (and ITA in groups).

But they need support from the population, whereas I have a feeling Belarus (or who knows, Turkey for the next one) don't give two fucks about what the population thinks :p

Taekwondo is not part of the Games?

That is a big disadvantage for the Europeans iro qualification to Tokio. All the other continents will have their games, where they can get additional 40 points and Europe not. Not good.

It's insane to see Great Britain on the list of qualifiers. Portugal is also kind of a surprise (even though they won a bronze medal at the European Championships a long time ago) but Great Britain is just insaaaane. How much improvement in a short time! I'm amazed!

Well, European Games will never be a serious affair if it does not closely correlate with the qualification to Olympics. With swimming and rowing out, athletics with a clown fiesta format, 3x3 basketball and beach football as the team events, it is highly ridiculous and no athlete would intervene with their preparation for real events that matter.

In all honesty, if we're making a mockery out of formats of Olympic sports, I'd just say scratch the entire idea (that's awful) and just make European Games an event entirely based on non-Olympic sports. Invite dancers, air sports, climbing, fighting sports that are non-Olympic, you can have your lovely beach football on the side as well, but at the moment I see this as a waste of money, where B and C tier athletes compete for the chance of getting their name on the first page of the newspapers in their country and of course that gives us something to write about as well.

There are countries where the European Games are expected to be on the first page of any newspaper?

    • And this is the final Medal Table fo the XX Bolivarian Games in
    • Agreed. But OTOH, the chances of a Male Team pursuit medal also seem rather slim at the moment, so why the hassle of dropping someone.
    • I have a sports database with millions of entries, which I then convert graphically on my Wikipedia sandbox.
    • Wouldn't be surprised to see the same this time. The men's 500m has basically on or with luck two medal chances, but certainly not three (semi-realistic) ones. With Beau Snellink for now not exactly on his way to an Olympic ticket and Patrick Roest still questionable, that might only leave Chris Huizinga, Jorrit Bergsma and Marcel Bosker, and that is not exactly a group one would want to have in the team pursuit.
