Swimming 2023 Discussion Thread

I have some sombre news for the Canadians here but Matt Temple just stole Josh Liendo's 100 fly Commonwealth record after clocking 50.25 at Japan Open :yikes:

http://swim.seiko.co.jp/en/2023/S70704/ranking/eng04R094.pdf

It was a quite fruitful meet with lots of PBs from the Aussies including a national record by Sam Williamson in the 50 breast (26.51).

Korea has a very strong chance of pushing Australia off the podium in the 4x2 next year and possibly even challenging for gold. China also looks on track to produce a very strong 4x2 team.

so looking at the World Aquatics calendar, I see this week we have an entry called "Jose Finkel Trophy and Brazilian Olympic Trials".

Can any Brazilians confirm this? Seems way too early to have Olympic trials already.

I found this (in Portuguese) which says it's a "safeguard" meet for Olympic selection but seems a bit strange to call it "Olympic Trials".

How fast she can swim tomorrow you think?

I could be wrong because I'm just speculating but I think she's probably focussed on speed for this World Cup tour. Peaking in the 50 and 200 at the same time is extremely hard.
