Very unfortunate turn of events for Laura Asadauskaitė.

Her luggage got lost, so she didn't have her usual fencing equipment.

Later on, her pistol was not approved by the judges as they claimed that the model was too old.

So Laura had to use a pistol that wasn't hers as well.

She is disappointed, because she felt that the title could've been hers.

Modern Pentathlon UIPM World Championships 2023
Posted (edited)

Tragic that Lithuania has no stakes in Olympic qualification here, because Asadauskaitė can't qualify twice :p

Huge underperformance in fencing sunk both Venčkauskaitė's and Serapinaitė's chances, so one of them will most likely qualify through UIPM rankings.

Titas Puronas qualified to the semi, don't believe he can do much more.

Ieva Serapinaitė absolutely blew it in the fencing, even if she reaches the final, there's really not much that she can do.

Gintarė Venčkauskaitė can't produce a good fencing performance if her life depended on her.

Laura is in prime position to attack a medal, assuming the riding and swimming goes well.

Adomaitytė has a chance to show she's worthy of a final with a rather good fencing start.

Women's Qualification round complete - 36 athletes advancing to semi-finals.

4 x :GBR :KOR

3 x :ITA :EGY :LTU :CZE :HUN

2 x :GER :TUR :CHN :FRA :POL

1 x :ESP :MEX :SWE

There were a few big named casualties, World Number 10 :LTU Gintare Venckauskaite, Number 15 :HUNBlanka Guzi, Number 20 :MEX Mayan Oliver, Number 21 :EGY Malak Ismail and Number 22 :POL Natalia Dominiak all failed to make the cut.

Huh? All four Lithuanian women have qualified, including Venčkauskaitė.

One of the events where Lithuania is really hurt that only two athletes can represent their country at the Olympic Games.

Asadauskaitė, Venčkauskaitė and Serapinaitė are all on a very similar level right now. Would love to have all three in Paris, because any of them could win, but also everyone can bomb out all the same :p

We are at 10500 athletes now. I doubt there will be further cuts

Congratulations, you just cursed everyone.

They'll find a way to round it down to 10000 now

Can't wait for Squid Game to become an Olympic sport in 2032

First, every single one of our canoeing specialists had to change their discipline, European and World Champions had to forget about sprints and learn longer distances, jump into different boats, never having canoed in doubles or fours.

Then, this whole modern-pentathlon shake up in which we have a long and successful history.

It feels like this is a master plan to sabotage Lithuania, with many of our strategic sports under fire.

I don't care about making Olympics more hip with the youth, I was young when I fell in love with the Olympics and I don't particularly feel that the event catered to me, because it didn't have to. Rollerskating, skateboarding, wall-climbing, golfing, breakdancing, 13yo gold medalists... it's just ughhh making this a joke for me.

Don't blink, they'll find a way to ruin Athletics, Rowing and Swimming for me too.

Obviously this is a farce. Thomas Bach OLY, 1976 Fencing champion, will not stand for this. Therefore, the Modern Pentathlon at the 2024 Olympics will be changed: Rocket League, FIFA, League of Legends, DOTA, Super Smash Bros.

Damn, I think that I could beat Asadauskaitė in this pentathlon

ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE.

Covid in July

Fractured ribs after falling off a horse less than three weeks before the Olympic start

A bad day in fencing, but a fabulous perfect score in riding

Laura Asadauskaitė does her magic again, running from 13th to 2nd and winning our very first medal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I honestly can't believe it, if it wasn't for that horse on drugs in Rio De Janeiro, this could have been a third Olympic medal in a row for Laura. What a phenomenal athlete that will be forever remembered in the history of women's modern pentathlon.

I don't know if she is aiming for Paris, it's only three years, perhaps she could do it, but she would be 40 in Paris :p

Gintarė Venčkauskaitė raced a beautiful race aswell, with another perfect 300 in riding and an absolute cracker of a race in the running+shooting.

You know shit is about to go down when you have Venčkauskaitė with a WR and Asadauskaitė with the OR in the last discipline.

Anyways, some appeals later Venčkauskaitė, Serapinaitė and Kinderis were allowed to start in the finals.

Asadauskaitė was not allowed though, so she might be one of those cases or was in close contact with someone that was sick.

Will Asadauskaitė miss the World Cup Final because of this? I am not entire sure how the World Cup works, but she's only 30th in the World Cup ranking.

I think the World Cup final is the least of our worries now that there are covid cases in the team.

The second Olympic quota in the men's competition was not looking too likely either, so what we're losing mostly is form and training time before the OG.

disaster for Italy...the whole team was forced to abandon the current world cup event in sofia because of a suspect case of coronavirus infection among the team officials...

Welp, joining the club here. Lithuanians banned from starting in the final due to two covid cases in the team.

Asadauskaitė, Serapinaitė, Venčkauskaitė and Kinderis were qualified.

:POL Maliszewska in 3rd - our first podium since Świderski/Kobecka gold in mixed in... Sofia 2019.

Well, Laura still needs more time to get into form, because on her peak, she could definitely take back those couple of seconds.

5th place after a year and a half hiatus is good enough for me.

And since Venčkauskaitė picked up a 3rd place in World Cup 1, it could be an interesting battle going on in the Olympics if the fencing works out.

Results after Riding? Where are you find ?

There's always live results on the official UIPM website, there's a direct link in the very first message of this thread. Permykina is 21st after riding.

You can bet that Asadauskaitė will attack that 54 second margin to first place :p

Pretty solid attempt from Serapinaitė, shared third before the final event, but she's very weak in it, so holding onto a top 10 would be a miracle.

I wonder if Laura Asadauskaitė would be able to blow away everyone with a hat trick (ECH and WCF already hers). She hasn't medalled in the World Championships since her gold in 2013. The majority of her recent titles were coming from European Championships and World cups, it would be nice if she won at least a bronze, especially since it's not certain if she is going to continue after the Olympics.

So, do we have a generation change? Demeter or Kinderis losing to Gutkowski in laser-run :) First time since I follow pentathlon (third Olympiad) we've got man qualified earlier than woman. More than that - first time since then we've got man qualified directly, without reallocation.

Well, Kinderis hasn't been quick in the laser runs lately, so I'm fairly glad that he at least held on to the qualification to the Olympics :d

There were 62 participants in the men's qualification...

Yeah, but that is only enough for two qualification groups. With 8 spots on the line, you'd expect everyone to go all out in this one, because it's probably the easiest chance to qualify.
