Posted (edited)

Yaaaa :hyper:

We have our 2nd Men’s quota in Boxing.

Amit Panghal :IND will be going to his 2nd olympics. He deserves this.

With this quota we have a total of 5 boxers qualified for Paris. We have 2 more in the finals today. Hopefully we can make it 7!

With Nishant Dev :IND qualifying in 71kg , we have our first men’s quota in boxing  & a much deserving one.

Along with the 3 girls who qualified earlier this is our 4th boxing quota. :thumbup:Hopefully we can add to that with both Amit Panghal & Sachin Siwach qualifying for their respective quota bouts.

Women's 66Kg:FRA Emilie Sonvico def. :IND Boro Ankushita (3-2)

Another close bout, but this one is not so bad, it means our better boxer at this weight Arundhati will get her chance at the last qualifiers.

Men's 71Kg - :IND Dev Nishant def. :GBR Lewis Richardson (3-1)

Richardson becomes the 3rd GB fighter to exit the tournament.

About time too!! Much needed after losing 5boxers in 1st round. Hopefully this win gives others in the camp some confidence.

Looks like Tapa just cant beat Abdulaev.

He lost against him the final of 2022 Asian Ch.

But being KOd - thats something new.

He is only here because our first choice Manish Kaushik is injured.
Thapa is way past it, i don’t know why the selectors keep selecting him & not give some of the younger guys a chance. Can’t do any bad than a first round KO!

Deepak :IND lost to Huseynov :AZE in a split decision 2-3 .

This is shocking & we don’t even have any footage to validate that scoring.

Here is the scorecard , the Philipino judge scored all 3 rounds for Deepak while the others saw it much closer. I don’t know what that :ARG judge saw in that last round

It is scandalous that they can’t even have a live score page up on their website.  That is like the bare minimum you can do, leave apart the live streaming & production cost but just score update on their website is just basic in today’s day & age. Even junior/ youth competition have better organization than this & this is suppose to be the most important amateur boxing qualification tournament

How is this olympic task force any better than AIBA if they can’t even do the basics right

Any predictions?

51kg

Tsuboi, Hill, Molina, Bibossinov

57kg

Sabyrkhan, Ciftci, Hussamuddin, Uulu

63kg

Usmonov, Abdullaev, Viafara, De La Cruz

71kg

Shymbergenov, Dev, Oliveira, Zhakarieiev

80kg

Oralbay, Gonzalez, Jalidov, Bevan

92kg

Mullujonov, Reyes, Talley, Bereznicki

92kg+

Aboudou, Arzola, Lenzi, Tiafack

I would love your prediction for 57kg to come true. I want Hussamuddin to qualify. But he is probably in the worst quarter of the draw. His side of the draw is stacked with 3 other equally good boxers. It will be tough.
On the other hand I think Deepak has a fair chance to get a quota in 51Kg

What is the qualification criteria for this round? How far do the boxers need to progress?

In men’s : 4 quota places are available in each weight category . So if they make the SFs in their respective weight class they will qualify for Paris.

In Women’s : Similar to men 4 quota places available across each weight classes except for 57kg & 60kg which has 2 & 3 quota places available respectively.
For 57kg only the finalists will qualify while for 60kg there will be a box-off between the two losing semi-finalists & the winner will qualify along with the 2 finalists.

Aidan is a far superior talent. Dean had a chance at the European Games and lost his first bout. His local IABA organisation have complained but it seems to be on the basis that he's our national champion. That's fair enough but Aidan missed that and they've been training together and under assessment for a while now.  It definitely seems like parochial stuff from Dean's team upet he's out rather than anything else.

Men’s Fly & Middle weights are stacked with quality boxers & are toughest to call. Aidan’s inclusion will only add to that competition .

Have you seen Khalokov box ? Kyyzhniak , yes & La cruz WAS a phenomenal boxer …but if you are a betting man, it wouldn’t surprise me if you would bet in Khalokov winning the gold in Paris.

All 34 ( 14 M + 20 F ) quota places have been allocated at the asian games.

As the draw was unseeded, it resulted in lopsided draws in few weight classes. As a result few boxers qualified who wouldn’t have qualified otherwise.

Few of the big names missed out, both the world qualifiers will be highly competitive & getting a quota place won’t be easy.

Here is a breakdown of where the quotas went :

:CHN - 7 ( 2M + 5W)

:UZB - 4 ( 3M + 1W)

:TPE - 4 ( 2M + 2W)

:THA - 4 ( 1M + 3W)

:IND - 4 (4W)

:JPN - 2 ( 2M)

:KAZ - 2 ( 1M + 1W)

:TJK - 2 ( 1M + 1W)

:MGL - 2 ( 1M + 1 W)

:PRK - 2 (2W)

:PHI - 1 (1M)

Terrible performance from us in men’s weight classes. Not even 1 quota & just 1 bronze medal . We expected to qualify 3 of our girls but 4/6 is a great result.
Shocking results for KAZ & even UZB These nations always send a full team on the men’s side.
