Asian Winter Games 2017

Better than a Pan American Winter Games assuming Canada and US send their best teams. Though I guess a number of nations could win bronze in team events.

They should have let Australia and New Zealand be eligible for medals, at least it would have added more competition.

I guess having some non-Olympic sports could have brought more interest to the smaller winter nations, like in 2011 when Iran, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia grabbed a couple of medals in bandy and ski-orienteering.

Iran was disqualified in the ice hockey por ineligible players. Didn't fulfill 3 year residency rules...

to be accurate Iran was "disqualified" for not having enough players ! OCA knew the situation about those players and still gave them their ID cards for the event but later some countries apparently protested that , since Ice Hockey doesn't exist in Iran, that left Iran with only 9 eligible players ! (those are in fact inline hockey players)

they are still in Sapporo playing according to the schedule but only their results count as friendlies ! with only 9 inline hockey players they lost 8-1 to Macau :d

They can only play with 9 players? In a sport like ice hockey that's impossible. That's like asking a single person to run a relay.

and these are not even Ice Hockey players :d

btw apparently they are going to barrow some players from the opposite team :p they are not serious friendlies. just having fun.

I don't know about IIHF eligibility rules but OCA rules are clear about 3 years residency. this is probably Iranian officials fault. they probably didn't even know such rule exist since Iran rarely use such players in any sport.

back in Incheon 2014, OCA didn't let UAE uses those Moldavian judokas they had for the same reason.

About the eligibility rules

Probably yes, but the mistake is even more strange since they are apparently inline hockey players and inline hockey is also under IIHF :d

Thats cool, great to hear that the opponents are prepared to help your team, we must keep in mind that at first it´s just a sport and it´s for fun. let the guys will enjoy the rest of the "tournament" and earn some good moments and who know maybe also result(s). Good luck :)

    • it's the main ice stadium built for the 1956 Olympics it used to be an outdoor venues until the late Eighties, then it underwent the first big renewal, part of which was a coverage to keep up with the rules and needs of modern ice hockey now it hosts the local hockey team (still one of the most successful in what remains of the Italian Hockey League) and a lot of curling events (national and international)
    • you guys really need to control your throwing experts or whatever, first weinstein and his little embarrasing meltdown last year, now a sport journalist[wernneholm] actually compares this record to pissing your pants, can i now assume he pissed HIS OWN PANTS when he saw the result ?anyway he's apparently very happy that Stahl wasn't present which i mean sour grapes galore, him being upset over Valerie too is even more pathetic given those above her are gdr era results, apparentlly he thinks those mean more than a throw in ramona.i'm now hoping Mykolas throws as many over 70 meter throws in the diamond leagues as possible so this moron can cry some more.
    • 3 times end result over 70 he had more 70 meter throws in all the series over the year i'm sure.''wind doping'' sorry my eyes rolled into the back of my scull,i will take wind doping over gdr era doping and those results remaining at the top of best time lists every time.wind regulation as far as discus goes would be a ridicoulous concept and would never work, and anyway discus throwers have chased wind FOREVER,this is not a new concept ramona is just the  new  place for it,if no one cared about it then,no one should care about it now that the internet exists.I find ramona to be an amazing invention, world athletics clearly loves it and i'm honest to god REALLY not concerned with ''fairness'' for  yapping  annoying sprinters when they already get all the attention...most of the time for nothing, the throwers deserve something for themselves and Ramona is that something.
    • a nice story from Cyprus.   a popular Russian football blogger Evgeniy Savin established a football club Krasava (named after his blog, it means something like Cool fellow) in 2021. The next year Savin made an anti-war report, was declared wanted and had to flee. He moved team to Cyprus and it started playing in the second division. In the third season they promoted to the top Cyprus division. Not every day a blogger's team gets such promotion, especially in a foreign country

    • Now Drion from  and Filippov  are in for sure with Klette  having a pretty good lead for the last spot. In the women's Paller  and Murada  are in. The final spot could be interesting but Jagecikova  has a decent lead.
    • Sara Curtis improved her 100 free PB to 53.57 in the heats
    • The fact that he threw only 3 times over 70m tells you everything you need to know about Ramona. It's pure wind doping and you know it. It doesn't matter who competes there or not, the rules should be stricter when it comes to outside sources like the wind. If say 100m sprinters had such help they would run close to 9s. Those records wouldn't stand, but somehow they're still allowed in field events. If these records had any legitimacy the athletes would be throwing close to that mark regularly, yet they do not. That's my problem, I have no problems with athletes who go there to compete.
    • Such a cute venue. Really glad they found a use for it at these games.
